when visiting DRDO website I found this... this could be the Air defence dazzler that is under development and to be inducted with in 2 years....

Hate to be the spoilsport, but don't u think the range is too low? Most aircaft can attack from well beyond 10 KM range. and if the "dazzler" is detected, one HARM/ALARM/Kh-59 missile can dazzle the dazzler

I think DRDO should try increase the range.

Strange!!! I didn't expect such reply from a senior member like you. what is the range of M-THEL??? why does IAF needs short range SAMs???? why IA/IAF needs MANPADs???

If it can destroy the aircraft and chopper than it should be able to destroy missiles as well with upgrades.

Much better than 'Su-47'!!!!

Yeah, its a hard kill weapon and mobile. It will destroy the target. The soft kill laser (blind) mainly used for IIR guided missiles and satellites.

1. There is a distinct niche for short range Anti aircraft measures in every AF and will remain so in the visible future. So 10 km is OK! Better ranges will be achieved in the future.

2. About detection; well the radar used to detect, track and guide is the achilles heel of any air defence sysytem. they are always under threat from Anti rad missiles. It will be no differant for this system.

3.About EO systems camoflague is the answer. For detection after launch, Note that this is LASER we are talking about, so the speed of the weapon in this case is equal to speed of the light. So when fired, the reaction time for the hostile craft will be..............

If what Kinetic says is true and this is indeed a hard kill system , we have a great thing going on here!

This is indeed a very good weapon, after some time Lasers will be the key weapons for defense and offence. We need to work more on this.

I think they should go for AESA with LPI. Actually its primary detection mechanism is electro optical and laser tracking systems.

Such dazzlers against fighters, choppers and missiles are usually hard kll systems unlike DIRCM used against only IR guided missiles.

Thats true.....
If estimates are right then by 2025 we will have the Anti BM laser, which will be a true defense and will secure the airspace. and then if all goes well then airborne laser.

There was some news about this airborne laser being tested by us, can u confirm it?

Acutally not tested but under development as mentioned by DRDO chief.

I read that we have static prototype of the weapon BUT facing problem to convert it in to mobile weapon as it need high power/energy to get 'operational'.

And Israel helping us to convert them in to mobile one.
