DRDO completes development trials for Pinaka Mk II rocket - IHS Jane's 360

India's Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) completed development of its 214 mm Pinaka Mk II unguided rocket with trials at the Chandipur range in Odisha from 9-12 December.

The development of the Mk II version is being run by the DRDO's Armament Research & Development Establishment (ARDE) and the trials co-ordinated by the Proof and Experimental Establishment (PXE).

The Pinaka Mk II rocket has pre-frag, incendiary, practice and three types of submunition warheads. According to sources, a total of 20 rockets were fired in the four-day-long trial to ranges of 20-60 km. The Pinaka Mk I rocket has a maximum range of 38 km.

Now..... the next version...... for a range of abt. 90 KM
After that PRAHAAR takes over in the Arsenal range.

Excellent! We need more batteries of these in the bordering areas. They are costlier than artillery shells but they are totally worth it.

If the Army can somehow put smart sensors on it and link it to Nishant and Rustom drones, we will have a solid wall of offensive defense on any of the high-risk areas as a backup for smaller number of troops deployed.

Launching missiles instead of rockets - will that mean escalation or remains the same?

Smerch has lesser range than A-10 that Pakistan has purchased from China.
110-120 kms. Pinaka needs to match that.

No need to match that. This is not an "Arm Wrestling Contest". :lol:
There is only an optimum range for unguided rockets to be used for saturation attack.
