PESHAWAR: Unknown gunmen Monday shot and wounded a sister of the ruling party chief of the northwestern Pakistani province of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, police said.

Doctor Gul Lalai, sister of Awami National Party (ANP) Chief Asfandyar Wali was coming out of her clinic in provincial capital Peshawar, when someone fired at her, senior police official Imran Kishwar told AFP.

“One of the bullets injured the arm of Doctor Gul Lalai, she was taken to hospital and her condition was out of danger,” Kishwar said.

“She is in trauma ward, but she is safe,” doctor Hameed Afridi of Lady Reading Hospital told AFP. There were no immediate claims of the responsibility for the attack.

Last week a suicide attacker killed the chief of Pakistan's Frontier Constabulary and two other people in a bombing in Peshawar. Taliban militants said they carried out the attack.

Bombs and attacks blamed on Taliban and Al-Qaeda-linked militants have hit soldiers, government officials and civilians across nuclear-armed Pakistan since government troops besieged a radical mosque in Islamabad in July 2007.

Much of the violence has been concentrated in the northwest and border areas with Afghanistan. On July 26 a bomber killed seven people as he targeted senior Pakistani officials mourning the murdered son of a northwestern cabinet minister.

Police blamed the Taliban for killing information minister Mian Iftikhar Hussain's 28-year-old son Mian Rashid on July 24. -AFP

Good to know that she's okay. Looks like ANP has made the talibans hit list

.
it might be the taliban, they have become the worst enemy of ANP lately.

^ Does it mean the gang war of Karachi is spreading to KP??

No that has nothing to do with it. ANP opposes the taliban so the the taliban are going after the ANP in their stronghold in Khyber-P. In Karachi it has to do with political tensions between ANP and MQM, nothing about the taliban.

Another sad day. The way Asfandyar Wali has been out of the country for the past year is downright wrong but the fact is that the terrorists clearly have him up their target list. He must come back from his foreign abodes but these inhumane bastards have shown that they will not even innocent civilians, women or children alive as well in pursuit of their toxic ideology.

People who have no sense of objectivity, reality and are blinded by their hate of the political class, which has roots in the collapse of state structure, should continue to remain apathetic and stop equating Taliban with ANP or try to condone a sad incident by labeling others as "dogs".

Perhaps a necessary lecture in decency was never given to you lot when you were kids. Better learn to be civilized.
