ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif gave his approval for the National Physics Centre in Quaid-e-Azam University to be renamed as 'Dr. Abdus Salam Centre for Physics', on Monday.

According to details, the Prime Minister directed the Ministry of Education to send the summary seeking to change the name of the National Physics Centre to Dr. Abdus Salam Centre for Physics, for approval to the President of Pakistan.

The Prime Minister made the decision keeping in mind Dr Abdus Salam's achievements in the field of Physics. In 1979, Dr Abdus Salam won the Nobel Prize in Physics for Pakistan.

Till now, no other Pakistani has won the Nobel Prize for Physics.

I did not insult Mauvis... What has knowledge of Islam got to do with this.... Never said don't follow Islam.... but you can't involve religion in all matters...

He should have been honoured in his life. I don't know what was going in Zia's mind at that time. While CIA agents could roam free on our land, the son of the soil was disowned by him. His religious belief was his personal matter as long as he did not bring that into official business. I have a great respect for Dr. Abdus Salam and I welcome this decision whole-heartedly. And to avoid further damage to the nation, we must acknowledge and respect our heroes alive. And it must begin by acknowledging the greatest national hero alive i.e. Dr Abdul Qadeer Khan. The distinguished scientist who sacrificed his bright career for serving his nation. We should make him the president of Pakistan as India did with Abdul Kalam. Why are we afraid of celebrating and promoting our national hero while our enemy can elect a murderer to the highest govt post.
Dr Abdus Salam has a great stature in the field of science as his research work was awarded wth Nobel prize but when it comes to serving the nation, no one comes even close to Dr Abdul Qadeer Khan.
