in this video you will watch DPU20 and DPU30 locomotives current condition, Pakistan Railways brought these locomotives in 2003 from Dong fang Dalian locomotive corporation, China. few of the locomotive,s were CBU and others were SKD & CKD and assembled here at Risalpur locomotive factory Pakistan, total units of Locomotives were 69, after 2 years of service in Pakistan Railways few major defects were found in these DPU20 and Dpu30 locomotives, and most common were cracks in under frames, now all of these chines locomotives are grounded since 2010 and waiting for rehabilitation, it was 7 millions $ deal which badly damaged the performance of Pakistan Railways

Seeking low cost/unproven solutions for virtually every need is bad decision. Transportation services should be spared this nonsense on Public Safety grounds.

GOP should commit to globally renowned companies to fulfill transportation needs across Pakistan at all levels of Public Transport and avoid seeking supposedly cost-effective alternatives for the needful.

performance was badly damaged by mismanagement not by losing 7 million dollars. this is less then a week deficit of railways
rails ways is bleeding 300 million dollars a year..

anyway china was new to locomotives 20 years ago, why did we conculded a deal with them..

regardless this has nothing to do with current railway situation

problem is railway kept it too cheap, too lenient on ticketing

There was discussion at the time about why a GE bid was being overlooked, and that the lifetime costs of the GE locomotives ended up making them cheaper than the Dong Fang locomotives.

Should send these to China for repair , not sure what is the big issue
Local authorities used , (used oil) to service brand new engines , the engines got clogged and destroyed

Who puts old oil from another engine into a brand new engine 100% local authorities created issue

Under frame cracks have nothing to do with engine oil.
Poor structural design or poor execution.
But its well known that Chinese trains have 2 versions.
The inhouse developed ones are the ones always with the issues.
While the 'inspired' ones do not have issues.
But whats surprising is that Pakistan railways had issues with the Chinese locos imported in 2005 but still imported again in 2015.
And no need to blame the Pakistani staff, they seem to have no issues maintaining the GE locos for years.
I am a railfan.

Local workers used , old oil from old engines , instead of brand new oil , busted up the Engines
All documented by workers of Railways

Instead of buying new oil , due to lack of funds used old oil , old story

The engine vibration busted the loco underframes and they cracked ?
Though good oil is critical for any engine, the maximum damage it can cause is jamming of the diesel engine. Like the diesel engine of a a car or truck. Ever heard of the truck frame cracking because the engine siezed ? And any modern loco will have filters in the diesel line with choking indicators or if the oil is oxidized, the lack of lubrication will increase engine temperature and should trip the engine before seizing. Many failsafes in modern engines.

Its not due to lack of funds in fact they sell it.

. .
It is documented evidence stated by many Railway Employees , the Engines were abused by usage of used oil , due to lack of supplies in Railways

The people instead of getting funds , just decided they can pull oil engine from some old engine and put it into brand new engines

After the machinery got damaged they started to blame it on Chinese Company

This is old story

Any structural damage due to no use and maintenance is due to negligence of past railway officials

Should do the simple thing , take engine , ship them to china for repairs

Who told u nost are due to infrastructural issue.

Most of them were damage due to carelessness. For example the engine oil was required to be changed after 75000 kms vs 120000 kms in GE engine.

No one change the SOP for chinese loco and engine oil was being used for twice the recommended time resulting in damaging of crankshafts

I have witnessed this myself. I was traveling back from Jhelum to Lahore. Our train was staying for more time than usual at Gujarat station, on inquiry the driver informed us that the engine oil is at end level and we are demanding engine oil from station master. Station master showed his inability to provide engine oil. we went to Wazirabad junction, where the station master allowed to extract engine oil from another locomotive standing at that station. That was nightmare journey. Bilor era was worst than Sheikh Rasheed.
