Dozens of people were trapped inside a government building in Pampore area on Srinagar-Jammu National Highway as a militant took shelter in the premises of Entrepreneurship Development Institute after opening firing on security forces.

Militants opened firing on a CRPF bus in Pampore town of Pulwama district, near the EDI complex, which was retaliated by the security forces, a police official said.

Six CRPF personnel were injured in the initial firing by the militants, the official said. He said at least one militant while fleeing from the spot entered into the EDI complex where over 100 students were undergoing training in entrepreneurship when the incident took place.

The official said around 50 staffers were also present inside the complex. "Over 70 people have been evacuated from various sides of the complex so far and efforts are on the rescue the others as well," he said.

Additional forces have been rushed to the area to strengthen the cordon around the EDI complex, he added.

Two jawans killed as militants storm CRPF convoy in J&K - Times of India

SRINAGAR: Militants attacked a CRPF convoy at Pampore on Srinagar-Jammu National Highway on Saturday killing two jawans and injuring 10 others before they sneaked into a nearby government building, triggering a stand off.

A possible hostage situation was avoided when CRPF and local police managed to evacuate civilians who were holed up inside Entrepreneurship Development Institute (EDI) building located at Pampore, in the outskirts of the Srinagar city.

"We have been successful in evacuating the civilians from the building," Director general of Jammu and Kashmir Police K Rajendra told PTI.

One of those evacuated claimed that they were asked by militants to leave because they did not mean any harm to civilians.

Personnel of the Army, whose elite 15 Corps headquarters is located barely 10 kms from the encounter site, were rushed to the encounter site to assist the local police and the CRPF. The number of militants, according to the eyewitness accounts, ranges from three to five.

Before storming the EDI campus, militants fired upon a CRPF convoy on Srinagar-Jammu road just outside the campus, officials said, adding, two paramilitary personnel lost their lives while another 10 were injured. Among those injured includes a civilian whose condition is reported to be critical.
Intermittent exchange of fire has been reported from the spot and the security personnel were ensuring a proper cordon and lighting arrangement at the encounter site to prevent the militants from escaping.

A famous saying "What goes around, comes around."

Seems like somebody has started to learn the tactics of the enemy and applying back the same way. Indeed the Kashmir cause has taken the heat as the matter cannot be suppressed by force or to be put under the carpet yet will never be vanished. The fight for their freedom will rise more than before as the result of being aggrieved and non-redress. The fashion of dealing of India with Kashmir and other issues, in violence will cause more damage and unrest because Kashmir is occupied illegally and against the wish of Kashmiri people. The sacrifices of Kashmiris wouldn't go in vain and the fight of freedom will be strengthen than before.

:enjoy:Lol. These mujahideens are smart people. They attack an Entrepreneurship Development Institute that was holding a workshop for Kashmiri youths to help them become entrepreneurs. They don't want any youth to become entrepreneur. At the same time they don't kill any Kashmiri because they don't want to lose their support base. Ise kehte hai ek goli se do shikaar. :enjoy: Syed Salahudin is a smart guy.

Good thing this was not a planned attack to take over the institute.

I am guessing the civilian casualties will be lower.

This was a planned attack. Why did they chose EDI which was imparting entrepreneurship development workshop? The unemployed youths are like blood bank for these militant outfits.

Oh god... Just two days back while returning from Anantnag i looked that building left side of highway & was curiously enquiring from Kashmiri driver about that building....
Our forces will make sure these scums will never have a chance to breathe again .....

wait for Indian minister threatening Pakistan with befitting reply and then a follow up attack on school or a mosque in Pakistan.
this is the reality of Pak -India proxy war.. when Kashmiris attack their bases and forces then their people respond with attacking soft targets like schools and mosques.

Interestingly attackers let civilians go. They said they just want to kill Indian soldiers and have nothing against civilians.

Khan who had reached inside when the unknown assailants stormed the building, had a first-hand view of the gunmen who advised him and others -- 120-130 people -- to keep calm and leave the building.

"Our target is security men, not you... keep calm and leave the building, shouted one of the gunmen in Urdu language," the traumatized Khan told IANS in a telephonic interview from Pampore.

Don't worry, won't harm you, gunman told me, says eyewitness | Business Standard News
