Gelatin produced from donkey hide is a key ingredient of one of China's favorite traditional remedies, known as ejiao, which is used to treat a range of ailments from colds to insomnia.

But as the rising power shifts towards advanced industry and away from traditional agriculture, donkeys are in decline. State statistics show the population has fallen from 11 million to six million over the last 20 years.
China is now increasingly looking to Africa to boost its stocks, and imports donkeys from countries across the continent. But flourishing trade has hit several roadblocks.

The traditional remedy ejiao, which uses donkey gelatin, treats a wide range of ailments including colds and insomnia.

Yawning, sighing and stretching are just three behaviours observed in donkeys that have been evaluated in newly published research led by academics from the University of Bristol's School of Veterinary Sciences and funded by global equine welfare charity the Brooke.

The research paper reports behaviour patterns of working donkeys in Lahore, Pakistan and the consistency of those behaviours. It confirmed that the donkey, which has a reputation as one of the most stoic of animals, in fact has a large behavioural repertoire.

There has long been a lack of scientific evidence relating to donkey behaviour, which is very different from that of horses or other equines. This lack of evidence can make it difficult to reliably address a donkey's welfare needs. Researchers will use the findings of this work to investigate how to analyse the different behaviour traits, start to identify emotional state and, importantly, to identify whether the animal is in pain.

The research builds on preliminary work to document donkey behaviour and the Brooke will apply the findings to improve assessment of donkey welfare in the countries in which it works. The Brooke regularly conducts objective welfare assessments on donkeys, horses and mules in the countries in which it works, to establish what welfare issues are present, and as part of creating effective projects to address them.

Melissa Upjohn, Research Coordinator for the Brooke said; "Our team in Pakistan were so pleased to work with the University of Bristol on this project, and it provides vital information that we will incorporate into our assessments. A lot of the process involves observing a donkey before approaching it in order to see it act naturally, and so these identified behaviour patterns are exactly what we need to inform the work of our field staff in improving donkeys' welfare and advising their owners on how best to help their animals."

Bhai sahab is media ne bhi har baat ka huwaa khara karna hota hai ab aisi koi baat nahi k pata hi na chale k kis janwar ka gosht kharid rahe han.wase bhi ek 80 90 hazar ka khota gosht k bhao bechne se kisko nafa hoga???? zara sochiye.:D

I have several Lamb Seekh kebabs and Chicken pieces for Lunch that I specially make the night before. I think I could eat all of that in the pic, just don't tell me what the meat actually is until I've finished and had Vimto.

maybe goes to China. one type of Chinese "burger" uses donkey meat as the filling.

Javed Nihari is most famous Nihari place in Khi near MQM HQ. You'll find MQM leaders eating there.
During 2000 there was a rumor that he was using donkey meat in his Nihari spread by MQM which had asked him for extortion which he refused to pay.

His argument at that time made a lot of sense. A donkey retails at PKR 55-70k whereas a bull/cow at that time around PKR 18-29k in normal days (not Eid ul Azha) so why the hell would I use donkey. BTW he used camel. Not sure if it still applies but would wish it does. I eat a lot outside.

Plus some people were discussing Lahaori Nihari.
Nihari = Pindi, Lhr, Khi (Sabri, javed nihari)
Pulao= Lhr
Birryani= Khi ONLY (you don't call saffron red pulao biryani or red aloo as in lhr. Plus its to be layered not smeared in gravy)
