"They" did not use it too quickly. Debts were called in the timeframe after PTI government left the office. These debts would have come calling whether it was PTI or PDM in the office.

IMF's $1B or even $500M is a vote of confidence for other institutions and countries willing to engage financially with Pakistan bi-laterally. So if this genius Dar gives up his nonsensical political grandstanding (I should say SS, NS share responsibility equally with Dar) and facilitates IMF, others like ADB, IDB, KSA, UAE etc. would open up some of the borrowing for Pakistan.

Army removed IK govt because they felt it was bad and widely unpopular

People understimated how hard it was for IK to maintain the economy in tough times of COVID and post COVID inflation.


Now they got the taste of things even though things are pretty good elsewhere

Honestly the fault can be blamed on the fonding fathers of the state I think. Look how painfully the American fathers planned it all out to ensure there would be no king or military take overs. They consulted greek works, islamic works, roman works, gathering the knowledge from all sides to combine the best of all governance systems. Say what you want, but the US does have somewhat a functioning democracy. Our founding fathers didnt have a vision and made no safeguards. Even the empires of antiquity had reforms that spanned and held the nation together for centuries.

2. So Pakistani citizens use their "black" money to convert to dollars.
3. They purchase petroleum products and other essentials (smuggled mainly) through these "black" dollars.

So where is the need for the Pak state to keep any kind of reserves? The Pak state may go bankrupt, but the people will do well for themselves.

What you claim here is a total misreading of what I have written.

Informal economy can not function in the absence of an effective state .

Informal economy also requires basic infrastructure to operate.

It needs electricity, water, telecommunications, roads, etc.

That is what surprises me too. $1 billion may buy one month's worth of imports. So, maybe Pakistan can push February, March. Then what? Still 9 months in 2023. Then 2024. Where does this end?
