Doklam standoff: How Chinese media failed terribly in mocking India, became laughing stock globally

.
Doklam standoff: Chinese media’s propaganda war against India on Doklam issue has failed to find any takers in the international community comprising of democratic nations. Japan has openly come in support of New Delhi, while the US has embarrassed China by showing no sympathy over the victim card played by China. Not only this, Chinese propaganda machinery, comprising of a bunch of state-sponsored media, including fire-spitting Global Times, has left top global media organisations amused. Global Times has threatened India of war on numerous occasions since the standoff between Indian and Chinese soldiers broke out in mid-June.

Contrary to the position of India and Bhutan, China accuses New Delhi of violating the border in its territory. It claims Indian soldiers challenged Beijing’s sovereignty by stopping the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) from building a road in Doklam region of Sikkim sector, which China claims as its own. With the help of its propaganda machinery, Beijing has been trying to hide the fact that its army was unilaterally trying to change the status quo in a region which belongs to Bhutan and is strategically significant to India.

Chinese media’s reactions to Doklam standoff have been peculiar and, interestingly, all of them include at least four common themes: a) Praise of China’s so-called superior military as compared to India. b) Mockery of India’s economy vis-a-vis China. c) Claim of China’s moral superiority with its so-called desire for peace with neighbours. d) Threatening India with dire consequences, even sometimes with war. These themes have appeared with so much regularity in Chinese media’s editorials and articles, that one wonders if they were all written by the same person?

Unlike India or countries like the US and the UK, there is no free press in China. So, it is futile to imagine that Chinese media can ever be rational or even share the truth. No wonder when recently China’s official Xinhua news agency released a racist video in a bid to highlight India’s ‘Seven Sins’ on Doklam, it not just shocked the international media but invited sharp reactions from across the world. Scores of users on social media even questioned the taste and quality of the video, which was shared exclusively for the international audience. Social media sites like Facebook and Twitter are banned in China.

The Guardian called the Chinese lie, saying, “In recent years, Chinese propaganda chiefs have embraced social media networks as a means of spreading the Communist party’s line overseas.” The CNBC called the video a “racist depiction of Indians”, while The Washington Post said, “State-run news agency (posted) a bizarre video mocking India as a bad neighbor – with an actor wearing a turban, fake beard speaking in a put-on Indian accent. Indian netizens immediately denounced the video as racist.”

“Propaganda is not enough for Xinhua, it now also makes racist videos about India. This is really unbelievable coming from state news wire.” tweeted Jojje Olsson, a Swedish writer who has written three books on China.

The New York Times observed, “Hoping to move away from the dull propaganda of an earlier era, the ruling Communist Party has in recent years turned to rap songs, animations and comedy skits to convey talking points. But many of those forays have been criticized as strained and over the top.”

Unlike China, media in democratic countries have the right to question their own governments. Its time for China to understand its propaganda machinery can hardly convince the global community with fake claims. Unless, of course, the Communist country gets a dose of democracy for itself.

I think the laughter is on india.

India placed 400 troops on doklam and achieved nothing til date.

the 400 troops must have been freezing to death and eating rations with no political or military gains ensured, and only more infiltration to come as china messes with india.

Brsides, the fistfight between troops at pangong lake means that india china established a norm for chinese troops to go india for shopping when india supposed to return fire.

Lot of perceptions were broken when china decided to whinge about a road which lead to absolutely nowhere.

The passive undercurrent of invincibility of the juggernaut called china among the neighbors has been shattered. Behind all the veil of a resolute image of china, what has been exposed is a peevish leadership who had absolutely no answer to india's response.

Does India have a leadership? I thought it only has a bunch of squabbling house wives arguing how holy cows are and what laws should be made to protect holy cows. See what happens in China everyday and check back that in India where your divisive politicians can basically make nothing happen, that's really not qualified to be called a leadership.

Sad to say, pesky indians have no one but themselves to defend

On the other hand, chinese population around the world shows unity on the confrontation :D

India must be a horrible place to be in. Indians must really hate India. No wonder they are running around the world like Syria refugees where there is no war in India!

Shut up.

Your senator first claimed that there were no face off. Then you guys opened a thread claiming pla thrashing indian forces which was followed by your defense secretary decrying indian forces using force on PLA ?

Dude just make up your fucking goddamn mind and stop embarrassing yourselves. !

A soldier, whose video complaining of poor food and arrangements at a camp went viral last month, has been detained by the Border Security Force, his wife alleged on Thursday.

BSF jawan Tej Bahadur Yadav’s wife Sharmila told HT that she received a call from him on January 31, informing her that his voluntary retirement had been cancelled and he was kept under arrest by the force.

In an audio conversation purportedly between Yadav and his wife, he is heard telling her that his life was in danger and his seniors were torturing him.

“I know too many wrongdoings of these officials. That’s why they are doing these things with me. Please do something and take my message to public. Jai Hind,” Yadav is heard telling his wife in the alleged conversation, which was recorded by Sharmila.

“He is being mentally tortured while all we can do is helplessly wait,” she said, adding that her husband told her he would go on hunger strike from Thursday if he was not released.

A BSF spokesperson in Delhi denied Bahadur was detained, but said his request for voluntary retirement could not be accepted because a court of inquiry was underway against him. Bahadur has been allowed to speak to his wife, said the spokesperson.

In January, Yadav -- deployed along the Indo-Pakistan border in Jammu and Kashmir – had posted four videos online, showing allegedly unpalatable food at the camp and alleging that ration meant for the troops was illegally sold by officers.

The videos sparked widespread outrage and top ministers took note of the videos but the BSF rubbished his claims, calling him a repeat offender “who had issues with intoxication and discipline.” A probe was also ordered.

Sharmila – who lives with their son in Haryana’s Rewari district -- said they were waiting for Yadav’s return and had printed cards for his welcome ceremony.

“We only want him back. Just give him retirement and send him here,” she said.

Sharmila also quoted Yadav as saying that the commander of his battalion had not been transferred, “as opposed to the news in media”, and he was constantly torturing the BSF trooper for “bringing out the truth.”
