Do Indians and Pakistani really understand each other?

I have been on this forum for more the 6 months and watching various postings by fellow members. I came to realize that we do not understand each other at all. The majority of the population here has created their own perceptions and do not want to see the reality.
At best few of us have read some Articles and new items and we feel we are expert in knowing people from each other; some of us seem to have made a brief visit to each other’s country. What’s funny is when we try to tell each other that your perceptions are misplaced no one is listening.
You might me thinking why I am talking about all this, I have my reasons. I feel we have a serious need to reduce our hostilities towards each other and if we continue to see each other with distorted lens it will not help. My fear is that the problem we have could also reflect in our leadership. We have been doing this for past 62+ years, if we do not move ahead in understanding each other by trying to make any attempt there is no hope for future relations. We then have to wait for next generation hoping they do a better job.
I believe understanding each other is the first step, once we achieve that we can then discuss Issues and there resolution.
Few myths I found in this forum about India and Indians
1) India has an Akhad Bharat policy.
Reality :- There is no such policy, a very small population less the 1% might have this kind of thought but majority is not even aware of this.
2) Indian Muslims girls are forced to marry Hindus.
Reality :- There is more Hindu girls that marry Muslim boys and not other way around.
Etc etc..

I do not know what you guys think, but IMO my reason to visit here is to try to understand how my friends in Pakistan think and I can tell you I corrected some of my perceptions.
Thought from fellow members are more than welcome. Hope we will stick to topic

I am asking people to change their view point and be open in thinking and you are starting this with blame on Indians. This is exactly what I am trying to point at. Are we open to other people's thought. When people tell you it is not what you are thinking, I will try to think I might be wrong as I do not know that country that well and will try to see if the other person is indeed telling the truth. If one starts questioning other on what he knows about the country is not right then you can never have trust and without it no progress. So far not many people shown any interest. More people prefer bashing, so you know where we are heading. We are more happy to break neighbors building instead of creating one of ours.

Well, Indians and Pakistanis DO understand each other , but only outside the Sub Continent. We meet & live as friends - even help each other.

I disagree with the point raised in post # 2 that Indians are obsessed with Pk. As rgds the No of ppl on this forum - well, if there are more Indians in the world than Pakistanis, it is not unusual to find more of them here.

The fact is that we have become prisoners of our times. Those who think out of the box are not accepted, Stereo types & jingoism are the order of the day. This situation has persisted since 1947. Now, add to this religious fundamentalism which ppl see as the cure to all ills- actually its the opposite.

We have a deadly cocktail - all that needed is a match to light the fire.

Indians and Pakistanis understand each other on personal level but not on political level. i think, this is my experience, that we easily make friends with each other. we get along in no time and feel like nothing strange about each other with respect to other people from other cultures. some may disagree but this is my observation and experience.

I beg to differ, we have our own agenda, and that is economics, unfortunately we are dragged by the neverending attacks that originate from Pakistan. We dont even watch Pakistan tv its u guys who are obsessed with Indian Tv and all that is to do with India. We have even shifted our focus from you to China. You are just an irritant if ever I were to discribe you/

Well put, I have personal experience with a lot of Pakistanis, there is a desire for peace and mutual benefit, but what happens in the political arena overwhelms the citizens of both countries.Personally I find this saddening. But heck, we have to face up with reality

These issues hasn't solved problems yet between governments, which is unfortunately for us.

India and China both have counter-aggression. One is Tibet and other is AP.

This is just your own personal opinions on Pakistan. You cant speak for your large population or your government.

The truth is:

1. Indians hate Pakistanis way more than they hate the Chinese or any other group of people on earth.

2. There are still many people in India (even in your government) who cant get over partition of 1947. For example the recent book on the founder of Pakistan written by a former BJP member that got him banned from the party.

3. There are still many people in India who hate the existence of Pakistan. For example, your media once showed the world 10 steps on how to destroy Pakistan

4. There are still many people in India who dream about Akhand Bharat.

5. There are still many people in India who dream about nuking Pakistan, or breaking it up into many pieces, or merging it with India.

And when I say many I mean millions because your population is over a billion..so there maybe some Indians who want peace with Pakistan and a stable Pakistan, but there are also millions of Indians who want nothing good for Pakistan.

Who is Ziad Hamid. Is he not your own Media... Man. He is not only talking about destroying but merging it with India and making it Pakistan's part.

Hatred is two way communication. If you spread hatred, you receive same, if you send love and apology you receive it same. You are one of those people who thinks that our nation is better than others. Because you live in Pakistan, you can never justify our sentiments.

And offcourse this thread should be closed as requested by other Pakistani Member who want peace.
