A teenager disabled Afghan athlete, Abbas Karimi won a gold medal in Disabled Student Swimming Competition in Istanbul Turkey.
Abbas Karimi, 14, who was born without arms, for the first time won gold medal after participating in the competition attended by disabled students from 35 countries.
Karimi could be the first Afghan athlete to represent Afghanistan as a swimmer in the Paralympic games which is due to be organized in Brazil in 2014.
He was the only disabled athlete to attend the competition from Afghanistan, and he has an ambition to earn gold medal for Afghanistan in world paralympics games.
Officials in Afghanistan paralympics praised Abbas Karimi’s success in the competition and said it was a major achievement for disabled athletes in Afghanistan.
The officials also added that his success would encourage a large number of disabled Afghans to persue sport who were prevented due to decades of conflict, poverty and neglect.

- So proud of Him!
