After a sharp rise in insurgent activities in northern Afghanistan, the former Jihadi commander and current First Vice President of Afghanistan wore the army uniform, geared up like a soldier and went to the front line to fight with Taliban and other militant groups.

He began the crackdown in Faryab province and intends to spread it to other northern parts after eliminating militants from this province.

The operation has been going on successfully under his leadership with at least 250 militants so far surrendered and at least 200 others killed, a count provided by head of the province’s council.

During this operation, Dostum’s convoy came under armed attack in Qaisar District yesterday. He escaped unharmed but in the retaliatory action eight insurgents were killed and 13 others detained.

Knowing the fact that it is war and anything unwanted can happen, Dostum has taken two of his sons with him to the front line. Dostum says the reason he took his sons to the battle field is because his countrymen’s blood is not cheaper than the blood of his sons.

“My countrymen’s blood ain’t cheaper than my sons! Yar M. & Babur fight like all other soldiers.” a post on Dostum’s twitter account stated.

The First Vice President’s this unique step might be an alarm to those leaders who issue statements from fortified palaces but neither they nor their family members have entered the battlefield to experience the reality on the ground.

Hats off for this leader. Bloody Indian politicians shout about " Why to cry ? People join army to die " and another ome who thinks politicians are more of a saviour than Army jawan ...

Afghanistan is on right track or else again some one invade Afghanistan in the name of fighting terror . Stronger Afghanistan is in best interest of India . I think time has arrived fhere afghans can handle our men on their ground . We can help people of Afghanistan if Americans can help with some funds . As we are not that rich to open multiple arena of war .

Long live Indo afghan friendship . India should give our migs to the afghans if possible few LCA and LCH

I wonder if Afghans believe that this was anything more than a photo-op?

If they do I really feel sorry for them. A corrupt, mass murderer would have his sons fighting like the common Afghans do? Desperate times call for desperate beliefs?

Further what legal capacity does a civilian president don a military uniform and go fighting? Further still under what legal capacity do his sons do that? Afghanistan a nation of laws?

And educated Afghans celebrate this even if true?

Sunni Shia does not matter to us. 70% of Indian Muslims are Sunnis and we have 180 million Muslims in India! (Third highest)

Those who attacked our land in past were people of the past. They were not you, neither current generation Pakistanis, Turks or Afghanis. Things change with passage of time. There are times in the history of nations when they are on top and when they languish at bottom. Those days some races plundered us because we were weak. Now none of these nations have the guts to attack us.

India's was always ahead of the world in most of its 5000+ years history. It was only during some 800 years when we were down. Now India is again attaining its rightful place in the world.

sunni afghanistan and india aint friends.

sunni turk sultan mahmud ghaznavi conquered india from afghanistan.

taliban is salafi. salafi aint sunni.

The guy is a turncoat, mass murderer and a war criminal.
He was described as such by the man who he is vice-president to today.
But even more important question is under which authority and under who's command he is fighting?
Seems like we are back to the Afghanistan of the early nineties, the Afghanistan of warlords, drug smugglers and criminals.

Well history does seem to be repeating itself, this time as farce.

How well qualified is a pakistani or someone else for that matter of fact to pass judgement on others. Doesnt pakistan hound out ahmadiyas and provided state support to organizations like SSP.

Desperate times call for desperate beliefs? Desperate times call for desperate measures.

Very same logic that is used by pakistan military to run the country and have kangaroo military courts.

Afghanistan is fighting terrorists who are killing innocent ppl. When these terrorists are being fought back , why do you have a problem with that? Tone and tenor of your words clearly point to your sympathies with the terrorists.

Dostum really? This guy is one of the worst creatures on earth.

we just killed SSP leader along with his 2 sons and 14 other c8nts.. The second in command of SSP is in jail... Say what!

What do you know about Afghanistan or the war?

Pretty retarded of you... The military courts were set up to try hardened militants and terrorists and have punished Paks most wanted terrorists... So stuff it.

Shut up and Google abdul raheel dostum... He's accused of war crimes, massacres, rapes and is a notorious turn coat... He has turned on his own buddies a billion times before ...

How is this different from PAF chief showing off by flying Jet over Shawal valley?. Infact it is quite safe flying in the sky with enemy having no means to hit your toy. Dostum is surely a ruthless man with bad history, but no one will call him a coward. He was a warlord and has been warring since Soviet-Afghan war of 80s. If some one doubts the fearlessness of uzbeks, he must ask soldiers of Pakistan army and SSG about it.

Lets not pretend, Afghanistan can only overcome Taliban with the involvement of local Warlords and Tribal militias, ANA alone wont be sufficient. In a Tribal society like Afghanistan, there are always volunteers available to defend their village or area. Pakistan army itself sought the help of tribal volunteers against Taliban in KP and FATA.

Aaaa yes -- so we are in desperate times ? I guess we agree

Tone and tenor of your words clearly point to your sympathies with the terrorists.

Please try to refrain from using words like tone and tenor -- you have no idea what they mean -- try to stick to stuff you have some command over.

And, please do not put words in my mouth.

Now, for someone who does know what tone and tenor means -- I would perhaps say, that your arguments might lead one to conclude that you have no idea what constitutes a modern state based on laws, or what the social contracts are that go into making one.

I'd stick to watching Rambo -- ignoramus!!!

I guess India's education system isn't all what it's cranked up to be -- Vande Mataram

Thats your opinion. What holds good for pakistan also holds good for afghanistan.
Every one know how your kangaroo courts function take a hike. (Activist′s murder spotlights army′s abuses in Pakistan′s Balochistan | News | DW.COM | 26.04.2015
SSP head was bumped of recently and still a lot thugs like hafiz saeed keep roaming.

You should also shut up and look inside your own country before passing judgement on others. If you can give your opinion in a civilized manner that will be good and dont assume every is a retard like you . If not keep ranting and raving.

Who the fcuk are you -- stick to the other side of Wagha -- interloper!!!

The PAF chief can legally fly that Jet, as does the IDAF chief -- not sure about the wisdom but legally they can.

I cannot see any legal mechanism under which Dostum is allowed to take field command of a unit -- let alone his sons -- now we are talking about a state of laws.

Now King Abdullah for example holds an active rank in his military establishment -- granted it is mostly for show -- but the rank yes he does hold.
