Faraaz Ayaaz Hossain
, 20, was a student at Emory University in Atlanta, the United States. He had come to Dhaka on 18 May to spend his summer holidays.

Faraaz went to the Holey Artisan Baker on 1 July evening with two foreign friends; Abinta Kabir, a US citizen and also a student of Emory University, and Tarushi Jain, an Indian national and student of the University of California, Berkeley.

The three were friends from the same school and all of them would be trapped inside as hostages when the restaurant was taken over by armed militants around 8:30pm.

An eye-witness account of one of the hostages was published in The New York Times newspaper on 2 July detailing the horrific acts of the militants.

In the report, Hishaam Hossain, Faraaz Hossain’s nephew, was quoted to have said that Faraz was given the opportunity to leave too, as he had heard an account from the hostages who were freed.

However, when the gunmen asked his accompanying friends their nationality, they said they were from India and the United States. The gunmen refused to release them, and Faraaz Hossain refused to leave them behind, his relative said.

He would be among those found dead on Saturday morning.

Latifur Rahman, Faraaz’s grandfather and chairman of Transcom Group, told Prothom Alo that Faraaz knew surahs for namaz. There is allegation that the militants murdered anyone who could not recite verses from the Quran. In that case, there would be no reason why Faraaz could not provide a verse from the holy Quran.

Faraaz refused to leave his friends behind at the hands of the militants. He stayed behind with his friends out of sheer selflessness.

Couldn't agree more brother.

We had to pay dearly for their petty political games.

She should take hard actions against these rats and their ideology. She should resign if she can't do that.

But after hearing her speech the other day,I am not that hopeful.

Pardon me for not having much knowledge about Bangladesh despite me being a bengali, How is the current law and order situation in BD? How strong is your intelligence agency? Our media has always been very positive about BD and especially Hasina but lately been hearing a lot about minorities getting killed, youths being radicalized kind of negative stuffs, but in my eyes BD is still a moderate, progressive muslim nation and i have deep admiration for BD for being the only nation on earth to have sacrificed such enormous amount of blood and tears for the mother language that we both share. BD must live up to the reputation not only for her but for the region and show the world that bengalis irrespective of religion do not tolerate intolerance.

1. SHW is running nothing. RAW do.
2. Were you in tears too when your criminal gang called BSF tortured young Felani, shot her dead and then hung her frail body on the border fence as you would hang clothes in hanger?

Rest in peace brother! You proved yourself a true friend but unfortunately at the expense of your life.

Such radicalism is finding a place in Bangladesh because of the repressive and autocratic nature of the Awami League which has closed down all peaceful avenues of dissent .... The AL should step down immediately for their failures. The AL is the real cause of extremism in Bangladesh.

From the short bit you've writen we can tell that you know very little about Bangladesh. Here are a couple of things to understand...

1. Bangladesh is a very moderate, progressive and inclusive muslim majority nation.
2. For every attack on minorities you hear in Bangladesh, we hear 10-20 fold of attacks on muslims in hindu india.
3. Your beloved hasina and the AL thats in power has been widely acknowledged as using the current situation to clamp down on her political rivals, and not those who are the ones doing all this.
4. The AL has in effect shut all avenues of desent thats resulted in a lot of people feeling alienated and voiceless.
5. We may share some similarities in the language we speak, but thats about the end of what we have in common.
6. Finally the most important part is this is our country and our problem to solve, we don't need or want your interference or advice.....

If Hasina had conscience she wouldn't cling to power by hook or by crook. She is no Cameron, so expecting her to resign for her failures is the height of foolishness. She regularly blames her political rivals for her failures, matter of fact, her minions are already trying to dump it on her rivals.

Indeed a true friend who sacrifice his life along with his friends. World should learn from Asians what true friendship really is. One can find such people in most parts of Asia.
