What's new

Despite American objections, new islands continue to be built in the SCS

Well what's the purpose of China hanging around the Senkaku islands??
You aren't going to achieve anything there either.

It's all just a political point.

So you're swapping nothing gained on the ground (China is the only one gaining on the ground, with all the new islands appearing out of nowhere), with the majority of Chinese people hating America even more than they already did?

Like I said, it's as if the CPC paid America to make this move, it serves all their interests. It makes America look like the bad guy, and it makes our island building look justified.

America isn't even admitting that it even happened, but the news bite is out, and people are pissed. All that for nothing gained, just a bunch of extra hatred for Americans. Perfect.

Technically speaking, say ramming a Krival-class frigate into a much heavier Ticonderoga-class DDG, might not be a proper choice of tool, though it did prove serving the purpose nonetheless. That's why I suggest purposely built assets could be important to making this protocol effective.

The Soviets had the problem of their ships being too slow. Most large US Navy ships can do 30+ knots. This left them with few choices.

True, assets being used in such a protocol should be purposely built, or at least adapted to some extent. Geographical advantage, if there is any, should also be taken in account in devising such protocols including the assets deployed.

Navy will challenge Chinese territorial claims in South China Sea

20 days ago it was announced. How the heck do you think all this press buildup started????
You think Chinese spotters alerted everybody?:rofl::rofl:

Someone didn't watch the video earlier in this thread, with US defence secretary Ash Carter?

He said, I can't confirm or deny it, I can't talk about our operations.... LOL.

That dumbass could probably talk about this though:

Chinese navy ships entered U.S. waters off Alaska - CNNPolitics.com

People don't seem to realize just how useless the United States really is in all this. They all think the U.S. really 'showed China up' by sailing within 12 miles of the islands and will 'do it again' hence gaining a major psychology victory for China's enemies LOL -- but guess what? Island construction is unhindered.

HOWEVER, if we look at this from another angle, what if the U.S. sailed its ships to SCS before China started the island reclaimation thus blocking China from constructing the islands in the first place? And China could do nothing about it but protest? Now that would be a physical and tangible victory, not some spiritual / theory victory from the worlds mighty "super power".

Who gain and who lost? Before United States pivot to Asia, China had basically ZERO infrastructure in the South China Sea, now China built up from sand and gravel the largest islands in the SCS in less than 2 years. :)

.
LOL so the US defence secretary is refusing to even confirm or deny if it even happened.

Fantastic. So they are trying to make a point, but apparently they won't even confirm if it even happened or not.

Really amazing. It doesn't matter anyway, since the Chinese nation already got the message, and the message is: Continue building the islands, because no one cares enough to stop it.

@TaiShang, @ChineseTiger1986, @Edison Chen, etc.

We will continue with the build-up, period.

These sort of inconclusive stunts are helpful and welcome. If nothing, they provide an additional excuse to speed up the construction and build-up.

These islands are China's forward bases deep into the Western Pacific. The more sophisticated they get, the better.

Like as @21stCentury said, the should have stopped China's build-up work in the very beginning. As the construction goers on at full speed with the required world class logistics available and unhindered, what is the point.

I like it when/if the US really thinks this is a victory for them.

LOL.

US incapacity and mess-up in Syria is a real eye-opener for us. We won't take them lightly, but we won't take them so seriously, as well.

They are not the most important, but one of the important, areas of strategy making.

I'm curious as to what America thinks it has achieved here?

The island construction has not been stopped (nobody thought it would be), America refuses to officially say whether they even did it in the first place or not ( ), but even if it didn't actually happen, just the news of it has caused a huge amount of hatred for America amongst the Chinese population. Even more than before.

And it has portrayed America as the belligerent party in the islands dispute, so even those Chinese people who disagreed with the CPC are now eagerly supporting the creation of new islands. If I didn't know better I'd have thought America did it on purpose to help the CPC.

The hatred, even on the special school forum we use here, is surprisingly high here in Taiwan, as well. The move, if real, really served the purpose.

I am not sure what political points Obama made there, but it made some political points here in Greater China, that's for sure.

The hilarious thing is that we did send our ships into American waters, just one month before they did. And America copied us, and now they look like the belligerents here. :D

Mismanagement despite that even Google manipulates the search results and puts the US regime under a very positive light.

The thing is the US hypocrisy has been revealed way too clearly for a large population of the world. They simply do not buy into it.

That's why while the corporate/fascist media all hails the US regime, the alternative media is squarely anti-US regime.

This does not undermine their destructive capabilities, for sure, but, there is at least an alternative paradigm.

you have to admire the transparency of their system for the public hearings, though.

America is showing itself to be a thoroughly despicable country.

Good that the (at least partly-native) Hispanics will become a majority there in the near future, to make up for the fact that the USA was built on the blood of 100 million Native Americans, who had their scalps cut off to make tobacco pouches. They didn't even consider them humans, they took their body parts like they would for any animal, to make pouches for their coins and tobacco.
