Democrats Promote Direct Talks With Iran

Some House Democrats have introduced a bill that would establish a diplomatic envoy in Tehran and mandate direct talks between Washington and Iran over its nuclear development plans.

California Rep. Barbara Lee, the legislation’s chief sponsor, said the measure is aimed at reversing the administration's official “no contact” policy with Tehran, reports The Hill newspaper.

“The darkening clouds surrounding Iran’s nuclear program are troubling,” she said last week. “We must use all diplomatic tools available, including engaging in direct bilateral and multilateral diplomacy. To do that, we must lift the ‘no contact’ policy and begin negotiations.”

According to Lee’s summary of the bill, the new envoy would be instructed to pursue “direct, sustained, bilateral, and multilateral negotiations with the government of Iran in order to prevent war and support human rights.”

The legislation has 10 Democratic co-sponsors, but it’s unlikely it has enough support to win approval from the House, given the move toward imposing tighter sanctions on Iran.

Both parties in recent years have supported tougher sanctions. Last week, Republican House Speaker John Boehner said the Iran Sanctions Act approved by Congress gives President Barack Obama several options for pressuring Tehran to abandon its nuclear program.

He did not specify what actions he believes the United States should take, but said he agrees with Obama that all options should be considered, a phrase the president used in last week’s State of the Union address and that many see as a potential nod to military action.

Boehner made his comments on sanctions after Iranian leaders said they might soon halt shipments of oil to European nations and declared that it has made progress in developing nuclear fuel. Iran, however, still denies that it is trying to build nuclear weapons.

Sensible thing to do. US should know by now that stubbornness and egotistical attitude is not going to yield any result.

.
Democrats and Republicans are pretty much the same. Just Democrats are a little (and I emphasize the word little) less blood hungry then the Republicans. If Iran was to ever reach an agreement with the US it would be with the Democrats.

Dems can't fool people anymore, they are just pretending to be a bit more gentleman than Republicans, but in reality they are even more dangerous and hypocritical.

Well in some ways democrats have been even worse, such as drone strikes. But overall I still believe them to be better then Republicans, especially the neo-cons within the Republicans. The best group however are the Libertarians, yet I doubt they will come to power any time soon.

Republicans have just turned into some insane religious nutcases from the middle age, but Dems are the modern enemies with the manipulative mindset, so be very careful by dealing with them.

Is there any Iranian version of 'Libertarians'? No? There is the problem. Let US know when Iranian 'Libertarians' are in power in Iran.

Well when it comes to foreign policy, Libertarians and Iranian government say pretty much the same thing. That is that you shouldn't attack other countries unless you are attacked first. Iran hasn't attacked anybody for hundreds of years.

these are both the same, upper hands in US decide about plans and strategies, whether it's start or end of wars. and no mater who these candidates are, they have to swear to support Israel in the AIPAC to receive financial help for their campaigns. a corrupted system based on money.

Well , we have some proverb in Parsi :

the yellow dog is reynard's brother ....

سگ زرد برادر شغاله ...

You mean Hezbollah and Hamas are figments of everyone's imagination?

Hezbollah was created to end Israeli aggression and occupation in southern Lebanon and to defend Lebanon. You can now see how well they have integrated in society. They are now far from a military organization.Israel really needed that to be kept in check and think twice before starting wars with its neighbors easier than drinking water.

Whatever happened in Lebanon does not affect Iran. Iran is free to get involved in any ventures, however, the moment such a venture includes military means, especially when one such means is guerrilla warfare, then you cannot claim Iran has not attack anyone. A proxy is effectively an agent representing someone else.

Of course Lebanon affects Iran. It's like saying China expands its military ties with Cuba dramatically and then we say U.S should stay away of it,it doesn't concern them.
We should accept that Iran and Israel are enemies and everything one does, affects one another somehow, to some extent.
Hezbollah was not created to attack Israel, and it's not that strong to do so.But it's strong enough to cause a huge blow to Israel with unpredictable consequences in case Israel attacks Lebanon.
