Islamabad—Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has said democracy has bright future in Pakistan and will of the people can no more be suppressed.

In a statement issued in connection with black day observed on Saturday, October 12, the prime minister said parliament, judiciary and media are key custodians of civil rights in Pakistan.

He was referring to the October 12, 1999 coup, when the then army chief General (retd) Pervez Musharraf overthrew a democratically elected government.

He said elected representatives will continue efforts for strengthening democracy. The Prime Minister said future of Pakistan is associated with rule of law and democracy.

Meanwhile, the central Information secretary Pakistan Muslim League (N) Senator Mushahid Ullah Khan on Saturday condemning the 12th October 1999 coup described it an unfortunate day in the democratic history of the country.

Senator Mushahid Ullah Khan said it was on this day when Pervez Musharraf abrogated the constitution of the country and arrested the Prime Minister who had come to power with two-thirds majority. He expressed these views while talking to the worker delegates from Balochistan and Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) here at central secretariat.

Mushahid Ullah commented that the steps taken by Pervez Musharraf created great difficulties for the country.Mushahid viewed that on this day Pervez Musharraf dismissed the constitution of the country and arrested the Prime Minister who had come to power with two-thirds majority.“It is the decision of history that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif is in the rule and Pervaiz Musharraf behind the bars” he added. He further said that Pervaiz Musharraf plunged the country into a war of terrorism that was not our war. He said that the government was taking measures to resolve the issue of terrorism but it will take time.

He said former dictator’s undemocratic actions caused economic, trade and fiscal deficit which destroyed the basic infrastructure.Mushahid expressed the hope that all the democratic forces will play their due role for strengthening democracy and will not let anyone to derail it.

BS,

Pakistan's economic growth since its inception has been varied. It has been SLOW during periods of CIVILLIAN rule, but EXCELLENT during the three periods of MILLITARY rule, although the foundation for sustainable and equitable growth was not formed.[46] The early to middle 2000s was a period of rapid reform; the government raised development spending, which reduced poverty levels by 10% and increased GDP by 3%.[74][173] The economy cooled again from 2007.[74] Inflation reached 25% in 2008[174] and Pakistan had to depend on an aggressive fiscal policy backed by the International Monetary Fund to avoid possible bankruptcy.[175][176] A year later, the Asian Development Bank reported that Pakistan's economic crisis was easing.[177] The inflation rate for the fiscal year 2010–11 was 14.1%

Dear 123456789101112131415........these quoted words are not of NS exactly but a "senator" of his party.....your portraying is mischievous and condemning in the first place!

Secondly, yes in every past military govt country progress economically for two basic reasons; Generous aid receive from uncle sam for selling country's intrests & decision making easy as no fear of any opposition from any quarters i.e., press, judiciary ordinary public etc.

For your quick history lesson about Pakistan.....its only in post 2007 period.....that all these equations turnarounds 180 degree; Now no more icing on the cake for Pathetic generals:sniper:

USA no more inclined to give aid through Pakistani Military by introduction of Kerry-Lugar bill.
Judiciary finds its own footing instead of towing blindly military dictations.
Press too finds its own independence behaviour never witnessed in past &
Ordinary public cannot be fooled by the mere slogans of change anymore....May 11 bar-witness.

So, When NS say democracy is the future of Pakistan......he is damn Right:coffee:

He forgot that he was created by a dictator. Pakistan develop in Civilian government and ruined in democratic period.

in my understand it doesn't depend on one system

look iran is doing fine without the democracy, yes it is sort of but its more socialism

look china is doing fine without democracy

look sri lanka is doing fine with kingship

it doesn't depend on the system honestly, it depends upon the people running the system

democracy has to prove in pakistan that it's a viable option for it

dictators in Pakistan have been more democratic then the democracy and that's a fact

dictatorship has proven to be more fruitful for the country then democracy

yes democracy needs to be given some time but honestly under the circumstances pakistan doesn't seem to make progress to have a good democratic system

Also we don't see any honest person other than dictators in Pakistan.

May Allah bless Turkey with Pakistani likes generals...............ameeen....sum...Aameeen:)

May Allah bless you with mind. Zia's regime was far better than any democratic regime. Ayub Khan's regime was also on its best and Musharraf did well in his regime. It proves that Pakistani was far better in dictator's regime.
