With CES about to begin, Dell is already jumping on the chance to get its devices some impetus beforehand. Its new XPS 13 2-in-1 is based on the successful XPS 13, possibly the best Windows laptop right now, using the same edge-to-edge design language with InfinityEdge display.
The 13.3-inch screen comes in either FHD or QHD+ (3200 x 1800) resolution. The new addition mainly includes the new steel hinges which allow both laptop and tent modes. The carbon fiber and machines aluminum chassis also gives you the touchscreen option by default (with support for Dell’s Active Pen), and weighs 1.2kg.
Underneath, you get the liberty of choosing between a 7th-generation Kaby Lake 3.2GHz i5-7Y54 or 3.6GHz i7-7Y75 processor, with up to 16 GB of LPDDR3 RAM, Intel HD Graphics 615 and up to 1 TB SSD. Connectivity includes 1 USB 3.0 port, one USB Type-C Thunderbolt, DisplayPort and microSD slot. You can hook up to two 4K displays at one from the laptop, while Dell is also providing a USB Type-C to Type-A dongle for all your older peripherals.
Battery life is said to last up to 15 hours. The XPS 13 2-in-1 is also coming with Intel’s 3D RealTime cameras, as well as a Windows Hello-support. Though the design is fanless, temperature sensors will tell you when the laptop starts to get too hot and subsequently throttle CPU load.
Pricing is set at $999 for the base model, which is $200 more for the base XPS 13. However, you’ll find the additional cost worth it if you are looking for a device that doubles up as a tablet as well.
