The golden jubilee of Pakistan Defence Day was celebrated with great fervour in memory of the 1965 war heroes who defended the motherland.

Celebrations for Defence Day started with a 31-gun salute in the federal capital and 21-gun salute in provincial capitals.

In Karachi, the day started with the change of guard ceremony at Quaid-e-Azam’s mausoleum where contingents of cadets of PAF assumed charge.

Here are some pictures from the ceremony at Quaid-e-Azam’s mausoleum:

cool pics, love the tank model in the last one, why are those girls leaving it out in the selfie ?

got a serious question here though, 2 big military parades in relatively quick succession, your news channels also running regular specials on special forces etc (which is cool) and everyone seems to love the general, most popular man in Pakistan today, right ?

think the awaam is being slow roasted and this will lead to another military coup eventually ? News coverage here in India spikes briefly when there are cases of border firing and the like and when the NSA meet got cancelled but public interest fades soon but I get the feeling "India" is pretty much front and centre all the time in Pakistani news, or do I have it all wrong ?

Is it because the past decade and a bit has been quite rough for the country and that the military is engaged in a big anti taliban operation that we're seeing all this patriotic fervour in Pakistan now or has it always been that way there ?

Here in India I can say for certain that Pakistan is not an issue people are discussing at the dinner table, and I can tell you with some confidence that most, or more likely, all taxi/auto drivers here will give you a :undecided: :what: o_O  :ashamed: if you ask them to name the army chief. :P

not looking to troll here at all, just genuinely very curious.

Well first of all this wasnt a military parade this was a celebration and airshows in all major cities. 6 september was always celebrated like this but about a decade ago with increasing terrorism all sorts of parades and such celebrations were stopped due to security reasons so the people couldnt see their army themselves and we only heard and saw them on tv. Now after such a long time peace has started to return and we again have these events so we are enjoying them as much as we can. 10 saal ki kasar poori kar rahay hain. Secondly you are right general raheel sharif is by faaar the most popular man in pakistan unlike kayani before him. People love and trust him more than any politician in the country. Before musharaffs coup people loved him in the exact same way and sweets were distributed by the public when he took over. However nothing like that would happen. People have accepted democracy even though they want him as a leader they dont want military rule. Next our news channels have only recently been giving so much coverage about india it has never happened before. I think its only for 6th september and it will finish soon. Our media otherwise doesnt even mention india eg if there is firing at the border they will only show it for 2 mins max and atart something else.
One more thing as our army has been in a war for 10 years now the people love them crazily and want to show their love to them hence the reason they have such enthusiasm for this.

you're right in that every country has it's good and bad but this level of love for their armed forces and how the army chief is the most popular guy has to be unique to Pakistan. The only other country I can think of where militaristic patriotism is so high is probably the US, but then they're the world police and always at war so people can relate because a lot of them know someone in the military or who's son/daughter/husband is out saving the world and killing terrorists, but even there I doubt most common folk will know the name of the top General. I see a lot of similarities between Ind/Pak... culture, food, dress, music etc but the 'crazy for Army' bit is unique to Pakistan.

but I guess it's all good if that's just the way it's always been and its not a sign of impending military aggression against India.

We are patriotic people and on top of that our armed forces are fighting since 2001 and for whom? They are fighting for us so it,s our moral obligation to support them. Our army defeated terrorists in areas where simply NATO failed. And they were not some ordinary terrorists they were highly trained and well equipped.Today you can see a dying terrorism in our country just because of the efforts of our armed forces.
Well i just said plain and simple and as an indian now it,s up to you to acknowledge our efforts against terrorism .

I've said many times that I fully support the Pak military in their war against TTP, qaeda etc

Its enough.......... I trying to stay out of this 1965 war discussion but such threads force me to reply.

Bravery??? Pakistan army? really , you(PA) fought in the guise of civilians(op. Gibralter) its damn coward act same thing happened in Kargil. Such act is the violation of Geneva convention I know well Pakistan never bother about those things. One the other hand IA never committed such coward operation.

Highlights of 1965:
Op. Gibralter unconventional war( as per your claim) - Failed
Op. Grand slam Conventional - Failed
Pakistan captured Khem Karan as the result of Battle of Asal utter , Patton nagar( captured /destroyed 197 PA tanks) was formed/named
PAF had quality edge over IAF agreed
India gained 720 sq. km of Pakistan territory and Pakistan got 220 sq.km

Leave all of this........ok you won 1965 war then why you terribly lost within 6 years ??? Is it suddenly Indian forces become brave ,patriotic and unbeatable?????.

Use some sense , its so sad whole nation is in denial mode.
