I still think the threats were not sending Pakistan into stone age. Threats were prmarily pointed towards Musharaf and his illigitmate gov. So he had no option then to accept what the USA asked. I think that was the time when we could have gained so much if we had dealt with the situation better, if we had played the game for our national interests and not for personal gains.

Through Gawadar, the resources from land lock countries such as Afghanistan, Tajikistan etc can be exported to the world. Moreover, the Gawadar port sits right at the gate of Persian Gulf ( from where most of world's crude oil is transferred). Gawadar can be a base to keep an Eye on China, Indian Ocean, ME, etc

I have always believed that Gwadar is the key to control china---. For that reason, I firmly believe that pak millitary should have understood the significance of U S invasion of afg---which mean to have found a way to neutralize and take our Bin Laden in afg.

If they could not control that part, then they should have realized the consequences would be much worse----for that reason---they should have gone after al qaeda at tora bora on our side and finished off the menace.

I think that Americans need a nearest port to 'handle' mineral wealth of Afghanistan besides the strategic location. Pakistan should cooperate with China more and more!

There are much more than OIL in Afganistan. Have u not read reports in NY times about Afghanistan is one of richest country in world ?

As i have told here before one friend of mine is from Afghanistan and before i read that report he told me when he was in Afghanistan for 2 years ago when his father died in sweden. Near his house there are huge mountian which are controlled by Americans and no afghani either goverment or civilian are allowed to go there.

24/7 there are helicopters both miltary and civilian who carry out MANY MANY containers on night. He asked his couise what is this he said GOD KNOWS we are not allowed to go there and than i read report in media.
