NEW DELHI:
An Army soldier was killed Sunday by a Pakistani sniper along the Line of Control in Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir, officials said, the third casualty due to sniping from across the border in three days.

The soldier, manning a forward post in Kalal area of Noushera sector, was shot by a Pakistani sniper, resulting in his death, they said.

The officials said Indian troops guarding the border retaliated strongly and effectively and the exchange of fire between the two sides continued for some time.

On Saturday, a soldier was killed after he was hit by a sniper in Sunderbani sector of Rajouri district.

Rifleman Varun Kattal, 21, a resident of Mawa-Rajpura area of Samba district of Jammu and Kashmir, was shot dead by a Pakistani sniper in Sunderbani sector of Rajouri district, triggering an exchange of fire between the two sides which also left two BSF personnel injured.

An Army portar lost his life in a similar attack in Akhnoor sector a day earlier.

On October 21, three soldiers of Jammu and Kashmir light infantry regiment and two heavily-armed infiltrators, believed to be members of the Border Action Team (BAT) of the Pakistani army, and terrorists, were killed in Sunderbani sector.

On November 6, a soldier was injured when he was hit by a sniper from across the border at Kalal in Noushera sector of Rajouri, while a BSF jawan was injured in a separate incident of firing by Pakistan along the LoC in the Manjakote area of the Rajouri-Poonch sector Friday.

The number of ceasefire violations this year by Pakistan has been the highest in the past eight year

The first seven months of this year saw 52 deaths and 232 people getting injured in 1,435 ceasefire violations in the state, according to an RTI reply by the Home Ministry.

Both sides use snipers.
India has far many more snipers along LoC as we have 2× more battalions along same length of LoC.
But there is one crucial element: Only India publicly reports casualties to sniper.

Having more deployment on loc is not a plus point lol. It provides snipers with more targets.

Ghost is doing a good job. I have heard Indian soldiers are scared of deploying to forward posts.

double or not but it seems as if there is a compulsory requirement that to join the indian army, you MUST be cross eyed because whether it's artillery, mortar or sniper, all of them seem to always miss their aims and end up shooting some village grandmother or the butt of a village cow or the tail of a village cat while our snipers, artillery and mortar ALWAYS hit the heads of their targets which are indian soldiers, bunkers, supply routes and military bases!

Your post shows you have not spent a single minute on LoC.

More troops means more firepower. We dominate LoC as we have more than twice the mortars, SPGs/RCLs, Atgms and Machine guns on the front.

More importantly on 70% of LoC India holds the higher ground (a fact admitted by Pakistani generals) which means Indian posts arr in dominating position.

As per Pakistani official reports India has fired 4225 times along LoC this year alone whereas Pakistan fired only 2000 times as per Indian reports thus proving who has more firepower.

The fact that just two months back Pakistani defence minister refused to divulge info on number of Pakistan army casualties to Parliament to own PTI senator despite she clearly asking for the data proves which side has more LoC casualties.

they don't provide parties like pmln and ppp to make a mountain out of a mole hile, that's why. the fact is that the indian army can't hit the broad side of an overweight elephant with a fluorescent target drawn on its behind.

Looks like the militants are now receiving better training and equipment from across the border.

This means that Indian claims of infiltration from Azad Kashmir is a big fat lie

Even Pakistan hardly claims otherwise.

indian army is 1.3 million, and by the admittance of india's own generals, 700,000 of whom are stuck governing the streets of kashmir and are. that leaves india with 600,000 troops to man the border with Pakistan, LOC, border with China, Bangladesh etc. Pakistan's Army is over 700,000 and now that fata has become a part of mainstream Pakistan and state sponsored terrorism from the afghan side is receding, that leaves almost the entire army to concentrate fully on the LOC and the rest of the border with india. yeah indian army is not in a good shape.

 and you were born and raised in some bunker along the LoC, right? :omghaha:

Its impossible to stop sniper attacks. The only option now available for India is to escalate.
it is impossible for india to stop ANY attack given that her soldier don't even receive proper rations or ammo. and india doesn't have the gutts to escalate.

this is the worst that india can do:

Fully agree, You have raised very good points highlighting the weaknesses of India Army which Pakistan Army is taking full advantage of and exploiting those weaknesses

  • Indian Army is ill fed
  • Indian Army has been very poorly equipped and trained
  • Government of India is all talk with no action

don't forget the 4th point:
