All right folks whether we like it or not the costly upgrade has already started and will take 7 years to complete making indian mirage 2000 to mirage 2000-5 mk2 standard.

i will try to compile the features and expect ur help in compilation too.

1)new radar:rdy-2 multi mode radar

Indian+Air+Force+%2528IAF%2529+has+sent+2+of+its+Dassault+Mirage+2000H+Vajra+fighter+jets+to+France+for+upgrading+them+to+the+Mirage+2000-5+Mark+2+RDY-3+radar.jpg

heart-of-iaf-mirage-2000-upgrade.html

data from dassault website

  • The RDY 2 radar manufactured by the Thales company is a latest-generation look-up / look-down long-range radar. Its ability to switch automatically in the detection, tracking and fire-control modes makes it unrivalled for air-to-air missions. Leading technical characteristics are as follows:
    In air-defence mission, the RDY 2 multimode radar can simultaneously detect up to 24 targets at all altitudes.
    It can track up to eight targets simultaneously and track four priority targets automatically in both the vertical and horizontal planes. It can evaluate the effects of beyond-visual-range attacks.
    In air-to-surface mission, it is capable to identify accurately fixed or mobile targets, and to designate them to the weapons.
    The RDY 2 radar satisfies the essential requirements of modern aerial combat, including firing against multiple targets. The radar employs three pulse repetition frequencies (PRF), with automatic monitoring frequencies for target detection purposes. The system is effective at all altitudes and ensures early detection, coupled with continuous target tracking of a very high standard.
    The RDY 2 radar is designed to use capabilities in the areas of reconnaissance based on high-resolution images.
2)self protection systems:most probably indian upgrade will have icms mk2 or 3 system which is considered to be very good.in comparison the uae mirage 2000-9 have a imews system which is even more advanced than icms mk3 due to additional air to ground capabilities.

from dassault website
A fully integrated internal countermeasures system capable of detecting, identifying and localising the most dangerous air-to-air and ground-to-air threats with the highest accuracy; this system includes multiple jamming and decoying capabilities. Thanks to interferometric sensors, the localisation accuracy provides the option of designating ground-to-air targets to weapons during a SEAD mission.

3)new mdpu just like the rafale with significant data fusion

4)new full glass cockpit

5)other features

  • A multifunction data link system.
To assist the pilot in the management of his mission, and to ease reconfigurations, the “Glass Cockpit” technology has been adapted for the Mirage 2000-5 Mk2.

The instrument panel includes 5 displays, among which 3 are color displays. The central screen is mainly dedicated to the tactical situation display. In between this screen and the Head-Up display, another screen -collimated to infinity – displays the main sensor image (radar or laser designation pod). This unique display layout allows the pilot to shift instantly from head-up flying to internal and external monitoring.

Among the other major evolutions of the Mirage 2000-5 Mk2, one can mention:

  • A modular avionics concept.
  • New larger lateral displays.
  • New back-seat colour display repeater.
  • Helmet-mounted sight.
  • Automatic terrain-following system based on a digital terrain file.
  • Digital map on a head-down display.
  • An aircraft-to-missile datalink with an increased number of channels.
  • A discrete multimode datalink system.
  • The new Damocles laser designation pod featuring:
    3-5µm infrared imagery,
    increased laser range.
  • A Flir imager integrated into the Damocles pylon.
  • On-board oxygen generation system.
  • Combined air-to-air and air-to-ground configurations.
  • New multi-channel recording system.
  • Increased maximum take off weight (17.5 t).
  • Very long range stand-off air-to-ground missiles.
  • The introduction of the IR Mica missile.

this is an old article of june 2000 on uae mirage 2000-9

most of the things are sime as mirage 2000-5 mk2
Cockpit and Radar

The Mirage 2000-5 single/two-seat multirole fighter has a VEH 3020 head-up display (HUD) from Thomson-CSF and a five-cathode ray tube (CRT) multifunction advanced pilot system interface (APSI) display, similar to the one in Dassault’s Rafale. The combined head-up/head-level display is collimated at infinity and presents data for flight control, navigation, air and ground target engagement, and weapons firing. Two color lateral displays present the aircraft’s sensor and system management information. The tactical situation display provides information derived from the advanced data fusion processors.

The hands-on throttle and stick (HOTAS) layout puts all the switches needed for combat within easy reach of the pilot’s fingers without him removing his hands from these two vital controls.

The Mirage 2000 has a multimode RDY Doppler radar that provides multitarget capacity in the air defense role and a look-down/shoot-down capability. The radar can detect 24 targets simultaneously and track the eight of highest priority.

A Mirage 2000’s comprehensive self-protection suite is installed internally and does not require any external pods. The 2000-5 carries the automated integrated countermeasures system (ICMS) Mk2 from Thomson-CSF Detexis. It incorporates a receiver and associated signal processing system in the nose for detection of hostile missile command data links. The aircraft’s self protection equipment can be interfaced to a new programmable mission planning and post mission analysis ground system.

Fly-by-wire controls are used in combination with a SFENA 608 autopilot. Other systems companies involved include:

  • Amphenol Canada Corp.–connectors and interconnection systems;

  • Celsius Tech Electronics–electronic warfare system;

  • Filtronic Components Ltd.–microwave subsystem;

  • LMB: fans and brushless motors;

  • SBS Technologies–Mil-Std-1553, ARINC 429 and telemetry products; and

  • Thomson CSF Communications–comms, nav and identification.

The Mirage’s Totem 3000

Little more than a year ago, Dassault chose Sextant Avionique’s Totem 3000 ring laser gyro, inertial navigation system (INS) for the Mirage 2000-5. The Totem 3000 is based on the Pixyz, an innovative monolithic 8.7-inch (22-cm) 3-axis ring laser gyro. It was designed to offer improvement over conventional inertial systems at a cost saving of up to 30%. The INS includes high performance accelerometers, a CDU 2000 control and display unit, and an embedded Topstar 1000 GPS board.

Totem 3000 has been chosen for several other military aircraft. This year, Sextant expects to produce more than 750 ring laser gyro navigation systems.
this is the cockpit...............it does look sexy

the engine remains same unfortunately as well as the airframe so technical parameters cannot improve,,albeit they may get degraded due to increased wt of upgrades

differences between rafale and mirage 2000-mk2

as we can see many of the systems are comman so this is a good thing at least

but its given rdy-3 in the oicture when actually indian upgrade has rdy-2

rdy-2>rdy-3(yes)
so we are paying 40 million $s of indian tax payers money per plane on cosmetick and feel good factors onli:hitwall:

the ew systems and cockpit is totally new
mica missiles have been brought

but yes i am not convinced one bit

Will IAF M2K be fitted with two extra hardpoints under rare fuselage (behind landing gears) just like 2000-5.

Awesome Capability. I am sure that some stuff will go into Tejas MK1 and MK2.

Can you please elaborate? It is too short to understand?

the tot even when done is for assembly of knocked down kits imported from dassault and it will never find way into tejas
another brochure indicating what we might be getting,,,,remember its not specific for uur upgrade but just general info

brochurecombataircrafts.jpg

can anybody confirm whether we will get this podded jammer too??

the problem

"even if the Mirage 2000H/THs are to receive a brand-new open-architecture mission/cockpit avionics suite and see their airframes being refurbished and re-lifed to stay in airworthy condition for the next 20 years, they still will not be able to remain flyable till 2038 (due to the 35-year guaranteed service-life warranty issued by Dassault Aviation) simply because the existing SNECMA Moteurs-built M53P2 turbofans would have reached the end of their certified total technical service lives (TTSL) by 2029."

No one said they had to remain in service till 2038- the IAF officially stated they wanted another 12-15 years out of these birds and that's what they'll get. By 2030 they will be replaced by either more Rafales or, hopefully, the AMCA.

i am sorry but when u are paying this much why not pay 3-4 million to change the engines??
they are already 25 years old and there have been 2 crashes recently too!!

by the way the equipment thats there in upgrade is at the most 10-12 million, notmore
