In caste-ridden Bihar, a poor Dalit was killed in Bihar's Kaimur district by a powerful man belonging to the upper caste and his supporters for using a government hand pump for drinking water, the police said on Saturday.
Mohan Paswan, 48, was killed in Parhuti village after he used the hand pump against the decree of the village strongman Pramod Singh.
Villagers told local police officials that Paswan was told not to use the pumn because he was an 'untouchable'.
Kaimur Superintendent of Police Uma Shankar Sudhanshu said a case was lodged in this connection. The police raided the house of the accused but he is absconding.
Sudhansu said that police will not spare the accused for heinous crime.
