KANNUR: Union minister of state for home Mullappally Ramachandran has said the training infrastructure and capabilities of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) will be modernized, for which the ministry has prepared a Rs 1000-crore project.
“One of the organizational challenges CRPF is facing today is lack of adequate training infrastructure. My ministry has plans to upgrade and modernize the training infrastructure and capabilities of the CRPF. Union home ministry has prepared a project for new centres and upgrading the existing centres,” he said after reviewing the passing out and attestation parade of the newly recruited constables of CRPF here on Wednesday.
The minister, who observed that the world today is passing through a phase wherein terrorism has emerged as a formidable challenge to peace, also added that cross-border terrorism poses a serious threat to country's security.
He also said the international drug mafia provides financial sustenance to terror groups and to fight this, specialized responses are required, some of which the CRPF has already formed.
Though the law and order situation in Kerala is good, attempts are being made by anti-national forces to spoil the peaceful atmosphere in the state, observed the minister.
He also said the CRPF camp at Peruvannamuzhi in Kozhikode would be used as battalion headquarters/ camping site and approximately 1,000 personnel would be posted in this camp beside their families.
The present batch comprises a total of 877 constables who successfully completed 44 weeks of training at the RTC Peringome.
MS Raghava, ADG (SZ), CRPF; NRK Reddy, IG CRPF, Southern sector; retired IGP Madhusoodhanan; TJ Jacob, DIGP/Principal; Sasi Kumar, commandant among others also present at the passing out ceremony.
After the passing out parade, the trainees organized a colourful cultural show.
