CPEC Projects Are Making Significant Progress: Cabinet Committee

A meeting of the Cabinet Committee on the China–Pakistan Economic Corridor (CCoCPEC) was held under the Chairmanship of the Federal Minister for Planning, Development, and Special Initiatives, Asad Umar, here today.


The CCoCPEC reviewed the progress of the various projects that had been undertaken by the Working Groups under the CPEC. The attendees were briefed about the overall progress of the CPEC projects in Industrial Cooperation, Energy, Infrastructure, Gwadar, Science and Technology, Socio-Economic Development, Agriculture, and Transport & Communications, and the hurdles in their implementation.

The committee noted that significant progress had been achieved in various projects, and the Chairperson remarked that the CPEC is a priority project of the enhancement of the Pak-China economic cooperation.

He stressed that the ministries and divisions should maintain the momentum of the CPEC projects and that they should follow timelines for their early completion. He added that the second phase of the CPEC that focuses on industrial cooperation will significantly enhance the benefits of the CPEC for both sides.

The committee also emphasized that unresolved inter-ministerial issues should be brought before the CCoCPEC directly by the concerned ministries along with recommendations for their resolution.

The meeting was attended by the Minister for Energy Omar Ayub Khan, the Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi, the Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Syed Ali Haider Zaidi, the Federal Minister for Food Security and Research Syed Fakhar Imam, the Minister for Economic Affairs Makhdoom Khusro Bakhtyar, the Minister for Railways Azam Khan Swati, the Adviser to the Prime Minister on Commerce & Investment Abdul Razak Dawood, the Advisor to Prime Minister for Institutional Reforms & Austerity Dr. Ishrat Hussain, the Deputy Chairman Planning Commission, and officials from various ministers and divisions.
