Prime Minister Imran Khan said on Friday that the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) would be completed at all costs and its dividends would be extended to every Pakistani.

Chairing a meeting to review progress on the projects under CPEC, the premier said that this project is the manifestation of Pakistan-China friendship. He said that CPEC is the best project for Pakistan’s social and economic development and it guarantees the country’s bright future.

The premier was briefed over the current status of different projects being completed under CPEC. He expressed satisfaction over the performance of the CPEC Authority and vowed to complete CPEC in accordance with the plan at any cost.

PM Imran directed concerned officials to further enhance the performance and capacity of the CPEC Authority for the early completion of the ongoing projects.

Earlier on June 18, CPEC Authority Chairman Lieutenant General (r) Asim Saleem Bajwa had announced that the second phase of CPEC will create job opportunities for Pakistani youth.

An agreement signing ceremony was held between CPEC Authority and Chinese companies in Taxila. Lieutenant General (r) Bajwa had elaborated the phase-II of the mage project had been started, which would provide further investment opportunities to foreign investors in Special Economic Zones.

At least 80 energy projects had been completed while nine projects were near completion, he had said, adding that two energy projects would also be the part of phase-II.
He had also invited foreign entrepreneurs to invest in Special Economic Zones (SEZ) in Pakistan.

Big question is when the trade will officially start from this route? I can't find any source where it mention any time frame that the China will start the trade through this route. I know they have tested few times but what about constant trade through Gawadar.

CPEC is only going to benefit Pakistan if Pakistani's get up and start doing business. If you think you will benefit only by laying tarmac, driving trucks and running roadside cafes - then you can forget about it. The real benefit will come from filling the port with Pakistani goods to export, by creating Pakistani businesses in regions where there was no previous access to the highway.

CPEC 1 has taken care of load shedding in Pakistan. CPEC 2 will make it an industrialized nation.

And while CPEC is being completed, DO NOT lose sight of hunting down corrupt politicians, mafias, lawyers, wadairas, judges, zamindars and every other scum traitor who would sell their mothers for money!!!!

CPEC without cleansing, exterminating corruption in the political and social landscape, is doomed to fail. Remember that!!!!

No sir, we shouldn't depend only on CPEC only. You have to do something about human resource development.

Some of the ones you call Mullah have some of the largest businesses in Pakistan. I don't think size of beard or ethnic background has anything to do with financial success.

That's true, the amount of terrible things people say on this forum certainly don't help create any bonds. As long as no offence is intended, none is taken. :)

Prime Minister Imran Khan Monday said China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) would take Pakistan on the path of rapid progress and development as its economic future was related to the completion of various energy and infrastructure projects.

He was speaking after witnessing the signing of agreement with China Gezhouba for Azad Pattan hydropower project at a ceremony here.

A part of CPEC, with an investment of US$ 1.5 Billion, 700.7 MW Azad Pattan will involve no fuel import, thus enabling the country to move towards cheaper and greener power while generating local job opportunities.

The project is located at River Jhelum and is expected to be completed in 2026.

The prime minister further said time would prove the long term benefits of CPEC which was based upon economic cooperation between Pakistan and China.

He said Pakistan could learn a lot from China in realms of economic progress and prosperity as the country was fast emerging as world economic power.

He expressed the optimism that in the future, they would learn from the Chinese experiences. The CPEC had different phases with various bright aspects for prosperity and progress, he added.

Referring to the signing of agreement, the prime minister said it was part of the investment to complete a power project based upon the clean energy.

Unlike past, the project would not burden the people, he said and mentioned the previous governments’ costly projects which were made functional with imported fuel, thus increasing the cost of energy manifold and stressing the local currency.

The prime minister said due to those policies, the power industry ran into losses impacting the consumers.

He regretted that the country could not compete with its neighbouring countries in terms of generating the low-cost energy.

He said the hydro power generation was considered as big source of clean energy which was also in line with his government’s policy of ‘Clean and Green Pakistan’ and regarded as environment friendly.

It would also help stem the impacts of the global warming, he added.
The prime minister also appreciated the energy ministry, CPEC authority, Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Punjab governments for the agreement over the project.

CPEC Authority Chairman Lt Gen (retd) Asim Saleem Bajwa, on the occasion, said the project would be completed by utilizing the indigenous resources.

He said work on CPEC projects continued with full force despite COVID-19 pandemic, generating job opportunities.

He further briefed that during the last ten days, they had signed agreements for bringing worth $4 billion investment and for generation of 1,800 MW low cost power in the country.

These projects would provide jobs to about 8,000 locals.

Chinese ambassador to Pakistan Yao Jing, Chinese company authorities, ministers and senior officials were present during the ceremony.

Good statement we sud faster its pace in order to complete, Chines investment is futuristic no one in world invest on injured horse. Pakistan will be the first country who will gain alot from CPEC.
Not quoting to counter you, but this was the best post related to the question I had. I get a sense that there is a thought that CPEC will benefit Pakistan. I am hoping to understand how it will be a game changer or kick starter,

One thought is that having a trade corridor will bring in economic benefits. There are couple of ways that can happen either by taxing the trade or exporting goods and services.

For taxing, will trade via CPEC will be cheaper than existing trade routes to allow for tax?

For goods and services, what would be the profitable exports from Pakistan? Raw minerals and coal are what I see as low value exports because it wont generate sustainable wealth generation cycle. What else could be exported for profit to China?

If this discussion has already happened, please do have patience and point me to the relevant thread :-)
