Country of broken railway tracks: How will bullet train run?
New Delhi: In a country where train running at a speed of 50km/hour has no guarantee of reaching the destination safely, preparations are being made to run bullet trains which runs at a speed of above 300 km/hour!

In a country, where tracks are unable to handle the speed of 50km/hour, preparations are being made to built tracks that will have to handle the speed above 300km/hour!

Indore-Patna Express was running on 50km/hour, then its 14 coaches derailed and more than 100 people died. Sunday’s incident is bone chilling.

Obviously, the bullet trains will have separate tracks but will be run by same Indian Railways which presently seems unable to put a check on accidents.

Nearly two-and-a-half years back, PM Narendra Modi promised to bring bullet trains in India which are the pride of China and Japan.

On November 12, PM Modi went to Japan and took a ride on a bullet train along with the PM of Japan Shinzō Abe.

On Sunday, Rajeev Shukla of Congress said reported ANI, “Unfortunate; we talk about running bullet trains when we are unable to run these safely, the judicial probe must be ordered”.

Congress VP Rahul Gandhi said-“PM gave speeches on bullet trains, why didn’t he talk about maintenance of railway tracks and the safety”.

Cost for bullet trains:

For bullet trains, the country will have pay huge cost. If between two cities, a bullet train will run, it will cost, reportedly, Rs 1 lakh crore. It is .5 lakh crore less than the health budget of India in 2015. [India’s GDP in 2015 was 125.41 lakh crore; In 2015, India’s health budget was, reportedly, 1.2% of the GDP (1.50 lakh crore approx)].

Rail Ministry is working on the diamond quadrilateral corridor for the bullet trains. The trains will be imported from Japan which will run at a speed of 350km/hour.

In many routes, work is being done like Delhi-Ahmedabad, Delhi-Varanasi. In Mumbai-Chennai and Delhi-Kolkata, the survey is being done.

PM Narendra Modi is making many changes in the country and under these circumstances, how can Railways be untouched?

Work on the bullet train corridor has to be completed by 2018. Will the Railways be accident proof by that time? Only the time will tell.

But accidents like these must be avoided at all cost.

I am for the bullet train but if you look at how dismal we manage the tracks and the trains our heart sinks. It is better to keep common man safety first and foremost. Bullet train is just a ego booster and show off at tax payers costs, nothing else.

.
The higher the speed of trains, the more critical the need to maintain tracks. I read someplace that the Japanese Rail companies dispatch work crews to maintain bullet train tracks daily. Yes - daily.

The trains also have sensors to measure trackage faults and report them back to the control stations per block (location) down to tens of yards.

A classic case of putting the bull before the bullock cart

Bimaru states have worst rail infrastructure in India. I improving ir should be first stage.

They're not going to get bullet train. Or at least not by international standard of what a bullet train is

Trouble is brewing already:

Looking at the cost of set up I am against the Bullet trains as with the same cost we can have several Expressways and airways that will cater to much wider population. However, Indian Railways has no choice but to run majority of its trains at an average speed of 100 miles per hour i.e. 160 kmph. To achieve this by 2050 we must start our short distance Bullet Train by 2020. Bullet Trains are the beginning of future Railway Infra in India.

i would rather do what pakistan is doing
standardized your current tracts to run safely at 150kms with current locomotives.

this is going to change to huge change, ultra long distances can be cartered by airplanes
a 300km distance will be covered by bullet train in 1 hour but by upgraded tracts 2 hours (up from 4-5 hours if 50km is true figure) much larger population, more benefits, faster freight, large areas, more safe

This remind me the stories of BBC who says that when 20% people are living bellow poverty line than how can you send a mission to Mars? However we did. Same way we will do that. Our rajdhani, Shatabdi and Gatiman express run at a speed of 160 KM per hour and we are in the process of running the train at 200 KMPH on the same track.

Its wasn't how. It was why?
