Total number of Covid vaccinations exceed 25 million:

All major cities' target is to have at least 40% eligible population vaccinated by end of August, says NCOC chief

ISLAMABAD: National Command Operation Centre (NCOC) chief Asad Umar informed on Sunday that the total number of Covid-19 vaccinations carried out so far had exceeded 25 million.

In a tweet, the federal minister further stated that the total number of people to have been fully vaccinated had also crossed 20 million.

The minister added that the authorities had planned further acceleration of the inoculation process for August.

“By end August all major cities target is to have at least 40% of eligible population vaccinated,” Umar maintained.


Earlier on Saturday, Umar said that with 102, the rate of Covid-19 deaths per million in Pakistan remained the lowest in the region due to timely decisions of the government.

The minister observed that in Iran some 1,037 people died out of a one million population while in Nepal the number was 326, India 301, Sri Lanka 186, Afghanistan 160, and Bangladesh 113.

However, he warned that the risk was not over yet therefore, people should follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and also have themselves vaccinated against the disease.

Pakistan recorded 2,815 coronavirus cases during the last 24 hours, taking the tally for confirmed cases to 1,004,694.

Around 45 more patients also succumbed tot he virus in a day across the country, whereas 1,176 recovered from it.

The country's death toll now stands at 23,016 while a total of 925,958 have recovered from the virus so far.

Consignments of Moderna and CanSino coronavirus vaccine arrive in Islamabad

ISLAMABAD: The second consignment of the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine and a batch of Chinese made CanSino vaccine arrived in Pakistan on Monday.

Three million doses of the Moderna vaccine, donated under the COVAX programmer, has reached Islamabad, health ministry officials confirmed.

The first batch of 2.5 million Moderna vaccine doses was delivered by the US earlier this month.
This is the fifth batch of vaccines to be obtained under COVAX.

So far, Pakistan has received four consignments of various coronavirus vaccines under the COVAX programme apart from this recent one. They include shipments of the Pfizer, Moderna and AstraZeneca vaccine.
COVAX has pledged free COVID-19 vaccines for 20% of Pakistan's population.

More than 200,000 vaccine doses of the CanSino vaccine also arrived in Pakistan, said the the spokesperson of the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA).


The NDMA spokesperson said the vaccine doses have been handed over to the Health Ministry.

The country has recorded the highest Covid-19 positivity on Monday, since July 1, 2021, as the country detected 3,752 coronavirus cases by carrying out 49,947 nationwide tests with a positivity ratio of 7.51 percent.

According to the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) following emergence of 3,752 Covid-19 cases, the number of active coronavirus cases has jumped to 57,799. The NCOC said that over the past 24 hours, 1,641 coronavirus patients recovered from the disease taking the national tally of recoveries to 927,599, since the pandemic outbreak.

During the past 24 hours, 32 corona patients have died, 31 of them under treatment in hospitals and one died at home quarantines.

Out of the total 32 deaths, 21 of them were on ventilators.

Sindh and Punjab reported most of the deaths in the past 24 hours.

According to the NCOC, at present, 2,677 Covid-19 patients are in critical condition and are under treatment at various hospitals of which 104 of them were admitted during the past 24 hours.

According to the District Health Officer (DHO), Islamabad, the Covid-19 positivity in Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) during the past 24 hours has been recorded at 9.13 percent as 261 people were tested positive for Covid-19 after 2,383 tests were conducted.

Karachi with 24.82 percent positivity ratio is on top followed by Muzaffarabad 19.76 percent, Rawalpindi 18.59 percent, Skardu 14.66 percent, Peshawar 12.41 percent, and ICT 9.13.

According to NCOC data, nationwide, at present, 277 ventilators were occupied.

Islamabad with 38 percent ventilator occupancy is on top followed by Lahore with 20 percent, Peshawar 17 percent, and Multan 15 percent.

Gilgit with 51 percent occupancy of oxygen beds was on top among four major cities with maximum oxygen beds occupancy followed by Karachi 47 percent, Muzaffarabad 30 percent, and Rawalpindi 24 percent.

At present, no Covid-19-affected person was on ventilator in Balochistan.

Out of 49,947 nationwide tests in the past 24 hours of which 18,122 were performed in Sindh, 17,751 in Punjab, 8,311 in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (KPK), 2,383 in the ICT, 1,727 in Balochistan, 740 in Gilgit-Baltistan (GB), and 913 in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK).

Out of a total of 1,008,446 cases detected in the country since the start of Covid-19, Sindh with 367,092 cases is on top followed by Punjab with 353,238 cases, KPK 141,925 cases, ICT 85,780 cases, Balochistan 29,571 cases, AJK 23,093 cases, and GB 7,747 cases.

Out of 23,048 deaths recorded in country since the Covid-19 outbreak, Punjab with 10,944 deaths is on top of which five deaths were reported in the past 24 hours, followed by Sindh with 5,833 deaths of which 19 of them died on Sunday, KPK with 4,420 deaths of which three died on Sunday, the ICT with 793 deaths one of them died in the past 24 hours, the AJK with 610 deaths, Balochistan with 325 deaths of which three died in the past 24 hours, and GB with 123 deaths of which one died in the past 24 hours.

A total of 15,717,061 corona tests were conducted so far, while 639 hospitals are equipped with Covid facilities across the country.

Some 3,045 corona patients were admitted to hospitals.

Pakistan has administered a total 25,432,173 Covid-19 doses to the people since the start of vaccination drive in February 2021.

So far 5,229,222 people have been fully vaccinated, while 20,202,951 people partially.

Pakistan has received a second consignment of three million doses of the US-donated Moderna vaccine via the Covax facility, said a press release from the United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (Unicef). Covax has delivered a total 8m doses to Pakistan since May 8, including 2.5m doses of AstraZeneca, 100,000 doses of Pfizer, and 5.5m doses of Moderna Covid-19 vaccines, the press release said. “Vaccines are key in the fight again Covid-19 and we encourage everyone to get their vaccine immediately,” said Dr Palitha Mahipala, WHO representative in Pakistan.

“We thank the US government for expressing their solidarity with Pakistan through this donation. Nobody is safe until everyone is safe.”

ISLAMABAD: The national tally of total active COVID-19 cases was recorded as 59,899 on Tuesday with 3,262 more people tested positive for the deadly virus and 1,123 people recovering from the disease during the last 24 hours.

Thirty-nine (39) corona patients have died during past 24 hours, 33 of whom were under treatment in the hospitals and six of them perished in their respective quarantines or homes, according to the latest update issued by the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC).

Most of the deaths occurred in Punjab followed by Sindh. Out of the total 39 deaths occurred, 17 of them died were under treatment on ventilators. There were 2,722 Covid infected patients under treatment in critical condition with 45 of them admitted during past 24 hours in various Covid dedicated healthcare facilities of the country.

The National Covid positivity ratio during past 24 hours was recorded 6.6 percent. The Covid positivity ratio is the percentage of actual positive cases appearing in every 100 tests performed to identify infected individuals.

Pakistan reported 4,119 coronavirus cases at a positivity level of 7.8% during the last 24 hours, with both numbers recording their highest levels in over two months, as concerns around the fourth Covid-19 wave come to life.

On May 19, Pakistan reported 4,207 infections, while the highest positivity ratio was recorded on May 20 at 8.22%.

Since July, Pakistan has been witnessing a surge in coronavirus cases as well as national positivity level as the country grapples with the Delta variant of the Covid-19.

During the last 24 hours, 52,291 tests were conducted across the country, taking the total number to 15,818,764. Of these, 4,119 came out positive. Pakistan has so far confirmed 1,015,827 cases.

The total number of fatalities from Covid-19 jumped to 23,133 after 44 people succumbed to the Covid-19.

The country reported 7,020 recoveries in 24 hours, taking the tally to 935,742 Overall, there are 2,898 critical cases and 56,952 active coronavirus cases in Pakistan.

Sindh again reported the highest number of cases at 2,517, Punjab (617) KPK (261), and Balochistan (180).

Similarly, Islamabad reported 279 cases, Azad Jammu and Kashmir recorded 167 Covid-19 cases while GB confirmed 98 infections.

As the number of cases surges, Pakistan has vowed a faster vaccination drive. On July 27, for the first time since Pakistan started its immunisation drive, the country administered 778,000 doses.

In a tweet, Minister for Planning and Development Asad Umar announced that during the last 24 hours, 561,000 first doses were also administered.

"New target : to inshallah cross 1 million vaccinations in a day," Umar tweeted.

683K doses in a day. Only a matter of a week or two before we reach the level of administering 1 million doses per day, Inshallah.


It will be difficult. There is an issue going on with in government ministry of finance and health ministry regarding extra funding for more vaccine purchases. Ministry of finance recommended ministry of health take a loan of $330+ million for vaccine purchases as the release of payment by ministry of finance will put further pressure on our currency, foreign reserves and rupee value.
