Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday announced complete lockdown of the entire country, as part of government’s stringent efforts to tackle coronavirus disease Covid-19.

“Today, I am going to announce a very important measure in our fight against Covid-19. The entire country will be under lockdown from today. The complete lockdown will come into effect from midnight tonight,” PM Modi said in his address to the nation.

This lockdown will be in place for 21 days, he added.

This is the second time in a week when he addressed the country on the fast-spreading disease with flu-like symptoms that has infected more than 3.5 lakh people and killed over 16,000.

In a television address last Thursday, PM Modi had highlighted the threat posed by the Sars-Cov-2 virus, which causes Covid-19 disease, and appealed to people to practise social distancing and work from home.

He had also asked Indians to observe ‘Janta Curfew’, a self-imposed restraint measure to keep themselves and others in the society safe.

The Janta Curfew was in place for 14 hours on Sunday - from 7 am to 9 pm. And, as advised by the Prime Minister, people stayed off the roads and public places during this period.

No other option I guess. We have a weak medical infrastructure & low money to fight back virus impact, the only way to balance is tough lockdown measures untill a vaccine is found.

There are more chances of modi using this curfew to encourage communal violence (owing to lack of prep by the population for the curfew which will result in people coming out on street to scavenge for resources). Modi will then use his minions to do a targeted oppression on the affected muslims similar to Delhi.

No, these will be opened (most properly). But no proper information as of now. But I believed that it will be open and the same reason, Modi said that more than lock down but less than curfew..but equal to curfew..

Curfew declaration means Emergency, Modi don't have the power to declare an emergency. He can only request states to enforce a curfew, which most state governments probably will, given the situation.

essential services will be operational , telecom, health, petrolpumps , grocery will be open for regulated periods of 3 hours .hospitals nursing homes will open 24 hours .

I would love to be wrong in 3 weeks as I don't want blood of innocent muslims being spilled there. However, that Incel modi is a nutcase.

I would wait for 3 weeks to judge the outcome of this lockdown.
