Cops foil Gonojagoron Mancha’s demo to besiege Myanmar Embassy

Law enforcers today foiled a procession brought out by Gonojagoron Mancha activists on way to besiege Myanmar Embassy in Dhaka’s Gulshan area.

The Gonojagoron Mancha activists protesting atrocities on Rohingyas in Myanmar’s Rakhine state were barred at Gulshan-2 intersection around 4:15pm, reports our photo journalist.

Following a scuffle with the lawmen there, the protesters staged a demonstration on the road.

Later, a five-member delegation of the Gonojagoron Mancha, a platform that demands the highest penalty for war criminals, led by its spokesperson Dr Imran H Sarker went to the Myanmar Embassy to place a memorandum on the Rohingya issue.

Yes, indeed "besiege" is sending the wrong message here, but their objective wasn't to be violent on the Burmese diplomats, rather to protest directly around the embassy which was stopped.

In Bangladesh, it's not a crime to be an atheist. Imran H Sarker for that matter is a Muslim from what I know, though it obviously doesn't matter when he's standing up for humanity. Neither is he "Pro-Indian", but rather "Pro-Bangladeshi/Bengali" and one of the most active Bengali nationalists of recent times.

We hold 2nd biggest rohingya population after Bangladesh, if we did not treat them gracefully then they can go to your ally India or Bangladesh who beat them and refuse to recognize them. They are lot better treated compared to even Bangladesh given the rghts of access to legally get jobs, access to financial institutions, NGO support etc.. Many of them are living in their own or some relative homes not forced into a tinhut of a refugee camp.
