ISLAMABAD:
In an effort to develop free media in Pakistan, the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has signed another agreement of support with the Free Media Foundation of South Asian Free Media Association.
The agreement was signed by Norwegian ambassador Cecilie Landsverk and Safma’s Secretary General Imtiaz Alam during a ceremony held on Friday.
The new programme includes trainings for journalists through workshops, seminars and conferences, besides development programmes for women journalists.
The ambassador said Pakistan is an epicentre for regional and international news where journalists face multiple challenges.
Alam also expressed his desire of making Safma a self-reliant association that can run its affairs without foreign support.
Information Minister Qamar Zaman Qaira, who was also present on the occasion, stressed on responsible journalism, saying that media persons should focus on people’s issues which, he felt, were being ignored due to extensive political coverage.
