Concept of underground hangars

I think we should have underground hangars to save our fighters from getting bombed during war.
Do we have or use underground hangars??

especially near border areas!!!!!!!

we did have UG hangars...... one was in Ambala there was one in punjab also I think...... and a few more I can't remember....... dunno if they are still operational

IAF has UG hangars don't know all of them but Bareilly AFB has them for sure for their MKIs.

destruction of Bunkers depends on the use and type of am-munitions. Bunker buster bombs r used to destroy bunkers....

I liked the Yugoslavian technique of putting a dummy jet instead of the real ones on the runway. Yugoslavia successfully saved its jets and it helped them alot but the biggest problem they faced was that although they were able to save their jets but they faced sortage of runways to use them as most of the runways were rendered useless after the attack.

Depends on who your opponent is. Taiwan has a gigantic underground hangar that is totally useless because it only has a single tiny exit in a shallow mountain that can get entombed by one bunker busting missile. Not such a good idea to get your entire air force taken out in 1 stroke. On the other hand, China's underground hangars are brilliant because they were designed to counter airburst nuclear weapons.

For India, it again depends on who you think the opponents will be and what their local capabilities are.

Yes! Many airfields do have 'underground' hangars. However, the point to be noted is that you can hide and protect aircraft from the enemy, but can't hide the runways! If they are severely damaged by enemy action, then all aircraft on that base would be rendered useless. And there's no way in hell you can camouflage runways!
