Computer literacy must for becoming ASI

The authorities have made computer literacy an essential requirement for recruitment in police as assistant sub-inspector (ASI).

Likewise, it has been decided that all recruitments and in-service tests and examinations shall be conducted through Educational Testing and Evaluation Agency (ETEA) to ensure merit and transparency in the process.

The decisions were taken in the second meeting of Police Policy Board held in central police office here on Wednesday with IGP Nasir Khan Durrani in the chair.

The meeting was attended by additional inspectors general of operations, special branch, finance, establishment, logistics, training and investigation, besides Peshawar capital city police officer, deputy inspector general and commandant of Police Training Centre Hangu.

According to police spokesman Raiz Ahmed the meeting discussed various issues and made certain decisions. The board, keeping in view the need and importance of information technology and its relevance in policing, decided that computer would be must for recruitment in police as ASI.

Similarly, the meeting also discussed the issue of killed policemen’s sons, who were getting overage owing to non-availability of posts of ASI under the reserved quota.

It was decided that till the availability of posts, the aspirants would be offered to join police as constables till availability of the posts and their eligibility.

These decisions of the board, Mr Ahmed, said would come into force with immediate affect.
