Balasore: Indian Navy and Coast guard personnel capture Bangladeshi boat on Balesore Coast on Saturday five km off the Kasafal fishing base. A Bangladeshi vessel allegedly fired on fishermen off the Balasore coast today when they approached it and then tried to sail away towards Digha in West Bengal, police said.
The vessel fired on the trawler following which the fishermen informed the police who alerted the Coast Guard, Balasore SP Rajesh Kumar said. When the alert crews of the local fishing vessels spotted the unidentified foreign vessel, they immediately alerted all concerned by raising alarms.
They detected the vessel while at about 5 km deep into the Bay of Bengal from the fishing base. Apprehending danger, the crews of the foreign vessel opened fire in the air. The vessel was flaunting a Bangladeshi flag and the crews were in uniform.
One aircraft of the Coastguard and one ship each from Paradip and Kolkata were pressed into service to intercept the vessel. There were no reports of injuries to the fishermen.Coast Guard helicopters were immediately pressed into service to intercept the vessel. The Bangladeshi boat with 16 persons on board was captured jointly by the Coast guard and marine police personnel.
