WASHINGTON (Web Desk) - Pakistan Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Raheel Sharif met with US Secretary of State John Kerry.

The meeting reviewed relations between Pakistan and Afghanistan, particularly cross-border cooperation between the two neighbouring countries and the challenges to regional security, with an emphasis on regional peace and stability.

According to Inter Services Public Relations Director General Asim Bajwa, John Kerry applauded Pakistan’s role in the war against terrorism.

General Sharif’s visit has come at a time when Afghanistan transitions to a complete security control and US-led international forces withdraw after a 13-year long war against Al Qaeda in the region. Pak-Afghan relations have also improved after Ashraf Ghani assumed the post of president of Afghanistan.

During his visit, General Sharif discussed security cooperation and military-to-military relationship with Pentagon leaders including US Joint Chiefs Chairman General Martin Dempsey and Central Command leader General Lloyd Austin.

Earlier in a speech at the Pakistani Embassy in US, General Sharif underlined Pakistan’s commitment to fight all terrorists – including the Haqqani network – without any discrimination during the ongoing military offensive Zarb e Azb in North Waziristan Agency. He also vowed not to let Islamic State (IS) militants take root in Pakistan.

.
For some reason i have a degree of respect for J.Kerry.

. . .
Kerry is regarded as a "friend of Pakistan".

.
Gen. Raheel didn't go to US for almost an year, but now when he did he made sure he said their for a long time.

.
I find him very reasonable. He would have made a fine US President than Mr. Clueless 'O bama.
Agreed. Unfortunately, he was taken down by Bush and cronies. Didn't know what hit him.

Hi,

You did not know that---supposedly he was a part of fraternity in the college that both of them belonged to----. The fraternity decided who would go ahead.

. .
General Raheel is doing in America what a functional democratic govt should be doing. Shame on Nawaz Sharif, he does not even have a foreign minister.

.
He can't contest again can he?
He can but a few issues:

- it would be unprecedented and he likely won't get his party's support. Getting up there in age as well.
- the going rate for a presidential run is one billion nowadays. Not sure if the shadow investors want to take a chance with him again. They lost money already once.
- he hasn't had the best of run as secretary of state (ISIS, benghazi etc)
- it's unofficially accepted that democrats will support hillary for next presidential run.

It is important for the U.S. and Pakistan to build on their improving relationship, and these meetings allow our officials to address any shared concerns and work together for the betterment of the region. Our nations have been working closely in regards to our common objectives in the region for over a decade. Our shared will and desire to succeed against those who threaten the safety of our lands has allowed us to overcome many obstacles and challenges along the way. We certainly hope to meet regularly and remain fully optimistic in regard to the future of our relationship. Dan Feldman, U.S. Special Representative for Afghanistan and Pakistan, noted last week that the effort to rebuild a long-term relationship between the two militaries had begun several years ago. “The visit continues that process and helps strengthen the relationship.”

How about giving us a nuclear deal like the one you gave India? Or provide us the F16's you were planning to provide India. Pakistan is being treated as an enemy rather than as an ally. Why did you have the presler amendment for us when we fought your pathetic war in Afghanistan against the Soviets. That war brought 3 million afghan refugees in our country and we suffered a number of bombings orchestrated by the Najibullah government

Thousands of Pakistanis are dying every day. Is our blood cheaper than yours? What about 50000 Pakistanis that got killed or how about recompensating us for the 100 billion dollars of loss in WOT? If you can't then you are no ally but are using us for your own needs.

Relations are rapidly improving back to mid 2000's.
