Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Gen Qamar Javed Bajwa is scheduled to interact with top US military leadership at the Pentagon during a three-day official working visit to Washington, according to Director General of Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Maj Gen Asif Ghafoor, Radio Pakistan reported on Sunday.

The DG ISPR, while speaking to the media at the Pakistani embassy in Washington, said that the army chief would also accompany Prime Minister Imran Khan during his meeting with US President Donald Trump on Monday.

Prime Minister Imran, accompanied by COAS Gen Bajwa and Maj Gen Ghafoor, arrived in Washington on Saturday for an official working visit.

Apparently, this is the first time that the country’s top generals will be accompanying the prime minister to a White House meeting with the US president.
Diplomatic sources earlier told Dawn, that Gen Bajwa is expected to meet former acting defence secretary Patrick Shanahan, the new Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen Mark Milley and other senior officials during his visit to Pentagon.

This will be Gen Milley’s first meeting with a foreign military leader since his confirmation on Thursday by the US Senate's Armed Services Committee.

The DG ISPR told the media that the security situation in Pakistan is "far better now", and added that the "sacrifices of [the] Pakistani nation and security forces have started yielding results".

He said that with the erection of a fence along the Pak-Afghan border, border control was much better, and that the fence would help reduce terrorism-related incidents.

The ISPR spokesperson said that the main focus of security forces was the development of Balochistan and the restructuring of areas affected by terrorism in coordination with the civil administration, Radio Pakistan reported.

Gen Ghafoor also briefed the media on the escalation of tensions with India earlier this year as well as the overall security situation of Pakistan.

The DG ISPR "lauded the role of media in highlighting [a] positive image of the country abroad," the report added.

• Bringing Talibans to negotiating table by Pakistan
• An understanding between Taliban and US for immediate cessation of blood shed in Afghanistan. If you closely review the security situation in Afghanistan, Talibans have stopped attacking US/Afghan forces, where up until an year Talibs were taking over small towns and checkposts. Pakistan acted as deal broker.
• Pakistan de escalated the situation after 27th Feb 2019, by releasing Indian pilot first and than further by not resisting in UN declaration of Laqvi as global terrorist
• Helping Pakistan in FATF group
• Arresting Hafiz Saeed befoe IK's visit to US

Things that US did for Pakistan,

• IMF loan approval
• Designation of anti Pakistan outfits like Baloch Liberation army as terror organizations
• Making sure India has no future role in Afghanistan, something Pakistan wanted for over a decade now
• Saudia Arabia and UAE committed heavy investment in Pakistan, this would not have been possible without US noding
• There has been recent crack down on many of the news channel in Pakistan by security establishment , US ignored it
• Also Pakistan arrested several members of PTM , US didnt comment on it ( In the past US would have released statements showing concern on whats been happening in Pakistan)

IK would simply not have gone if there was no room for negotiations but it seems things are moving on in the right direction. Posturing is very important in international relations and negotiations. Mush had a rousing welcome but we got stuffed in the actual dealing. So-we need to see how things turn out. I dont expect any major changes but as long as we dont give in at the first sign of their calling we are on the home run with Pak US relations. Hate tham as you may but they are still a force to reckon with and while you dont want a dictation you also dont want to be their enemy.

The Americans might not have given a great welcome to Imran Khan, but even the deep state knows that this leader won't lie down like previous scumbags. Business shall be conducted on equal footing.

As for red carpets and stunning receptions, no one gave a hoot. All that matters are results and I am certain that Imran Khan will get results for Pakistan.

Thank you for your response. Let us wait and see. As to India it is already out of the Afghan negotiations and this is already being noted in the open press. The Afghan situation is critical as both parties Pak and US want to settle it on their terms. The Talibans have said they will not negotiate with US still in Afghanistan and US out of Afghanistan will spell the end of Ashraf Ghani and a power vacuum which will propel Afghanistan into chaos. So how do the two deliger on the Afghan front while keeping all parties happy. This is what needs to be discussed.
The key to all of this lies with how much control Pakistan can exert on the Taliban. If we have some control then we have cards in our hands that can be played.
As I said we need to see how things pan out on the 23rd during the main meeting between the Orange man and the Cricketer.
