The Pentagon has decided to withhold a significant chunk of the allotted $900 million Coalition Support Fund(CSF) citing Pakistan’s inability to take down the Haqqani Network. The US believes that the militant outfit is impeding peace in Afghanistan by using Pakistani soil.

This comes at a time when the US is undertaking an extensive Afghan policy review. The new Afghan strategy will be applied to Pakistan as indicated by Defense Secretary, James Mattis earlier this week.“The funds could not be released to the Government of Pakistan at this time because the secretary could not certify that Pakistan has taken sufficient action against the Haqqani Network,” Adam Stump, a Pentagon spokesman, said in a statement.

Pakistan was imbursed $550 million of the CSF earlier this year.Coalition Support Fund (CSF) authority reimburses key cooperating nations which provide military, logistical and other support to combat operations undertaken by the US. Pakistan, having received over $14 billion since 2002, is the largest beneficiary of the CSF reimbursements.

Lawmakers in the US have been clamoring to exert more pressure on Pakistan for its alleged complicity in sabotaging peace and security in Afghanistan.

“The Department recognizes the significant sacrifices the Pakistan military has made in the fight against terrorism and appreciates Pakistan’s continued support for the transit of material to coalition forces in Afghanistan,” Stump said.

Lawmakers in the US have been clamoring to exert more pressure on Pakistan for its alleged complicity in sabotaging peace and security in Afghanistan. Senator John McCain, who is battling with cancer, earlier this month warned Pakistan to change its behavior before the US changes itself.

Over the past few months, top officials and legislators have given tough statements against Pakistan, which have compelled analysts to predict the US to take a tough line on Pakistan.

However, pandering to the majority in Washington two US lawmakers in Ted Poe and Rick Nolan last month introduced a bipartisan bill in Congress, seeking to revoke Pakistan’s status as a major non-Nato ally (MNNA) owing to Pakistan’s alleged inability and unwillingness to halt forces inimical to US interests.

Stump, however, said that Pakistan still has time to mollify Mattis over the certification issue.At a time when the Afghan theater is beset with multifarious security threats and challenges, strained Pak-US ties are least desired.

Of strategy and Geopolitics
Despite hardened stances toward Pakistan, there are voices in Washington which still believe that it is imperative for the US to elicit Islamabad’s support.Last month US State Department’s spokesperson, Heather Nauert said: “The United States and Pakistan have a close partnership on regional peace, security, prosperity, and stability. And we continue to work with the government of Pakistan on areas — many areas of mutual interest, including counterterrorism.”

can any body tell me what's new in this thread ? we all have discussed together in all previous thread

most of the militants fled to Afghanistan after Pakistan’s successful operation in the tribal areas.

“Our efforts have been met with success, and acknowledged by a number of countries, including the US. Various delegations, who came to Pakistan from US and other countries, have visited the affected areas, which we successfully cleansed from terrorism,”

Now in this Crucial time when Pakistan needs more help & support and Pakistan is eradicating terrorism and Sincerely Conducting Operation against terrorist Organization, U.S is Deliberately not understating Pakistan Position on war & terror. In this situation No One Can help U.S concern & doubts OR is this punishment by not paying military reimbursements after alot of scarifies ?

Dont Blame us blindly there is no save heaven now after Pakistan’s successful operation in the tribal areas. Provide us Intelligence sharing if you have any, Dont blame us blindly.

you always mention what Afghanistan, India said but why ignore Pakistan always ?????????

on the other end India is keep on violating the LOC when Pakistan is fighting against terrorist organization. and Afghanistan accusing us with unwarranted concern without any evidence and creating hurdles to secure durand line. both are creating hurdles for Pakistan and U.S wants do more..

this should be enough for crying to any one because of Drone strikes. what if U.S Drone strikes on Indian arm force willingly or unwillingly.. stop pretending and preaching like bumpkin. Pakistan already emphasized her narrative/ideology next to U.S that you cant eradicate terrorism by only force. you will kill militant leaders/supporters and next day they will announce new leader with more supporters.. kill them but by following Pakistan ideology.

there are no hideouts in Pakistan now all are shifted by militant into Afghanistan after Pakistan's successful operations in tribal areas. no one cant resolve anybody doubts/unwarranted concerns. we are not responsible for anyone incompetence.

we helped SL and Iraq to defend against militancy. we know better then anybody else how to accomplish the task. it's better for U.S to follow Pakistan Think Tank, ideology rather then unsuccessful experiments
U.S either support us against war and terror or keep pretending like ignorant. seriously it does not matter what you think.

we dont want more anarchy or civil war like situation. we are moving steady but efficiently eradicating terrorism. so you need some patient. you can follow your way. we are free to follow our way. after all both have same aim to get rid of militancy. let's see who achieve the task first. but i guaranty you, you cant achieve peace by U.S-India policies.
