HYDERABAD: Urging it to invest in a big way in the state, the government has offered full support to the Tata Group for setting up projects ranging from titanium refinery to steel plant.
Going all out to woo the top corporate house, chief minister K Rosaiah has written to Tata Sons Ltd chairman Ratan Tata offering land either near Visakhapatnam or in north coastal districts of Vizianagaram or Srikakulam for a titanium refinery.
Raw material for the refinery is available in plenty in the region, Rosaiah has informed Tata.
The CM has asked the industry captain to send his representatives to coordinate with principal secretary, industries and commerce, B P Acharya.
Sources in the government pointed out that the Tatas were inclined to set up a titanium refinery plant in Tamil Nadu few years back, but the proposal was put on hold by the Tamil Nadu government in view of concern expressed over its impact on the environment. This plant, they say has the potential to provide direct employment to over 1,000 people and indirect employment to 3,000 people. Though the proposals are still in the initial stage, they could bring an investment of over Rs 3,000 crore to AP.
Recalling his one-on-one discussion with Ratan Tata on Sunday, Rosaiah said the state government would allot land in Anantapur or Kadapa for setting up Corus steel plant, which could not take off in Orissa. Ratan Tata is said to have evinced keen interest in setting up units in steel, power and automobile sectors.
He further said that the government had, in the past, requested senior functionaries of Tata Chemicals for investments in petroleum, chemical and leather units with the assistance of Union ministry of commerce.
