Although we are cash starved, but we could always use 3-4 of Y-20s for international transportation needs of our military. Participating in exercises, or exhibitions. We could even convert one of these to a medical first aid plane, a mini-hospital of some sort.

There are not the top priority for Pakistan, Pakistan was interested in purchasing 5 used C-130 from Australia but Australia decided to sell these to Indonesia, deal was finalized on July 2013.

Pakistan top priority at this time is Mid to High altitude SAM system, Jf-17 block II, purchase of FC-20/J-31, 4 new Frigates, Submarines deal with China, drones technology and development.

Those australian C-130s were damn old. We don't even have funds to upgrade C-130s to glass cockpits.

As good as those ideas are, the beginning of your comment basically puts this entire plan on hold. Pakistan can't even afford to buy the T-129s from Turkey (which Pakistan is still apparently getting) how would be buy even 1 of these? The maintenance costs for these are extremely high, it's just unrealistic to even think about buying this.

This is not to mention that China may not even offer it to Pakistan or even any international buy. It's China's first real domestically developed and produced transport carrier, they're not going to part with it so easily. They may end up putting a lower end model up on the international market, but we shouldn't even expect that until at least 2025.

Hopefully Pakistan's finances will balance out buy the end of Nawaz's term and someone competent will come into power.

We can only hope, for the next 10 Years things will go smoothly but from the perspective of future due to huge experience worth 50 Years with C-130s we may/should switch to atleast 5-6 C-130Js provided EDA in the Future by US and stop getting older H models. Rest depends on the success of Y-20 with China so yes it won't be available until a decade by that time 5-6 could be ordered that carries more payload thus the older C-130Hs can be phased out in favor of Y-20. It all depends on Funs availability in the next decade and the up coming requirements, for now everything regarding transport is more than enough. If the current C-130s have juice left after 10 years they can be kept for special missions.

True enough. All we can do is wait and see, but frankly, I have no confidence that the Y-20 will make it's way into Pakistan anytime in the future.

Honestly speaking, I'm confident that the Chinese consider the Y-20 as a tech demonstrator, and future superior models will be based on it as a base model. Even then I feel that this will take a long long time to come into production.

I'm sure China will find a way to provide Pakistan with some Y-20 when needed,i wouldnt worry.

I think the Y-20 is a good viable option for PAF, but as of now it's still a new platform and requires further evaluation. Though those saying Pakistan doesn't need a heavy life transport plane are wrong, PAF absolutely needs one. It helps to reinforce and resupply ground troops, the entire front can benefit from having these planes assisting them.

I disagree. There is little need for, or room in the coffer for the Y-20. Pakistan's tactical airlift needs are all met by the C-130; and as such it is the perfect aircraft for our airlift needs. If anything, the other aircraft that seems suited to replacing the C-130B in service is the C-130J. At worst, if the C-130 is not available the next viable option would be A-400(if funds permit) or the An-70. At any rate, the PAF has little need for strategic lifters due to its limited operational intent. Further Il-76's are another option but as such its moot.

Rip-off or not, they did it. If india had this capability they would have done it too and would be beating indigenous indian drums, like they do for every other "painted in india" thing.

Looks like another rip-off by China- looks almost identical to C-17. How does a transport plnae change the military balance in the region? India has always maintained a conventional superiority over Pakistan does this purchase really change anything?
