New Delhi: Chinese troops will be positioned in Pakistan to protect the 3,000-km-long China-Pakistan Economic Corridor that connects the Gwadar Port in Balochistan to China's Xinjiang region.

Besides, Pakistan has raised three independent infantry Brigades and two additional artillery regiments to protect the highway, security agencies have told New Delhi. A Brigade consists of least three regiments, each with about a 1,000 soldiers.

The China-Pakistan Economic Corridor or CPEC starts from the restive Pakistani province of Balochistan, runs along the Makaran Coast turning north to connect Lahore and Islamabad, passes through Gilgit-Baltistan in Pakistan occupied Kashmir (Azad Kashmir) and then runs into the Karakoram Highway, ending at Kashgar in the Xinjiang region of China.

Although China's People's Liberation Army or PLA will be positioned to protect the highway, its presence in Pakistan is a cause of concern for India. New Delhi has earlier objected to the presence to Chinese troops in the Gilgit-Baltistan area and a substantial portion of the additional forces being raised in Pakistan and the Chinese PLA are likely to be deployed in that area of Azad Kashmir.

"We are closely watching these developments," a top government official told NDTV, adding, "We have a fair idea of the number of Chinese troops that are likely to be positioned in Pakistan."

There are indications that Pakistan is seriously attempting to annex this region into a fifth province of Pakistan, government sources said.

Pakistan's moves to annex Gilgit-Baltistan have led to massive protest in the region and brutal crackdowns on the local population.

The first phase of the CPEC is likely to be functional by December 2016 and it is expected to be completely ready in three years, giving China direct access to the Indian Ocean and beyond.

The corridor is likely to be used, among other things, to transport fuel and petroleum products from the Gulf region into China. Its will shorten the route for China's energy imports from the Middle East by about 12,000 km.

Chinese President Xi Jinping had agreed to build the highway and committed a whopping US dollars 46 billion for the project, during his visit to Pakistan last April.

Yeah good idea, Americans in afghanistan are waiting for that to happen. It would be historical irony if america plays the same game that pakistan played on soviets. Only in this case it will be afghanistan in pakistan.

It's bullshit news. Chinese troops won't be going into Pakistan, there is little reason for this to happen.

As for the US, the last thing the Americans want is a destabilized Pakistan, which would be a nightmare scenario for them.

"Pakistan's moves to annex Gilgit-Baltistan have led to massive protest in the region and brutal crackdowns on the local population."

There are no massive protests, and no brutal crackdown. The Azad Kashmir government is against it, but only in principle, and the GB has been demanding that it be declared a province for decades. In fact, the only protests that I've ever noticed is when the central government keeps delaying it's decision on the region, due to pressure from Azad Kashmir.

you see it is a dream for them to have massive protests in Gilgit Baltistan. As their are none they have fabricated them for personal relief.

Indians as usual paralyzed by fear, fed by bollywood media.

.
That they are invaders? Are the locals that dumb?
Many Baloch express fears over foreigners taking over their land; so Chinese presence in the area will only strengthen their claim.

Why would Chinese Soldiers need to deploy thousands of soldiers to protect an area from a dying insurgency of less than 100 Baloch who are hiding in caves with limited ammunition and broken morale. It makes no sense...

Look at this

I've seen now what Indians are being fed.

The clips of soldiers are from an MQM riot and the clips of protesters are Kashmiri protesters in Pakistan protesting against India; you can even see a Pakistani flag at the back.

Yet Indian media like always is twisting and falsifying - they make the Indian population believe that there is a civil war going on in Pakistan's Kashmir; meanwhile Kashmiri separatists number less than a 100 in the area.

Old news....the Chinese troops ARE and HAVE BEEN in Pakistan. Anyone surprised? I am not, this was a logical next step to protect some of their assets that they plan on keeping in Gawader, as well as build some facilitates. The US is in Afghanistan for a reason and primarily its to ensure that the Chinese know we are there. However, this has nothing to do with India, but I bet you, the Indian members on here, will make it sound like it (like the drama we see on every other post) :enjoy:

I don't know what strategy you study and what developments you follow. But your post has no sense to it. The Chinese troops have already been in Pakistan for a while now. Who is constructing the Naval base and other facilities around Gawader and a couple of other areas alongside the CPEC?? Why do you think Modi had a Cow for like two months mid last year (many statements can be tracked online on this topic from Modi and Doval on how it was the most critical to stop the CPEC). The Chinese gave a serious shut up call to India and shut up it was......

.
I dont think even if this news is true, how Chinese can replace the native soldiers who know the culture and have experience of fighting with terrorists. The Chinese for all their modernity do not have experience in fighting modern terrorism or in sub continental jungles. The last time they fought in Jungles was in Vietnam, and the next gen of Chinese soldiers hardly have any battle experience.

it was a good attempt by them but seldom the whole world cannot be fooled.
