Chinese Sanctions Benefitting Chinese As SMIC On Road To 5nm In 2025

Summary

  • China sanctions are aiding Chinese equipment companies as HoH growth is 4x greater than non-Chinese equipment companies.
  • Sanctions have also proven ineffective as Chinese companies SMIC have reached the 7nm node and YTC is selling NAND chips to Apple.
  • SMIC has been developing its 5nm node chips without embargoed EUV lithography since 2021 and will reach production in 2025.
  • China added a massive 47,400 new chip-related businesses in 2021 after recording 23,100 in 2020.

5nm in 2025?

That's almost 10 years behind, assuming SMIC is finally able to produce 5nm chip.

After that, no progress as SMIC was unable to get EUV machine to move beyond 5nm production.

There will be 2nm available on the market in year 2025.

That mean the gap will be still 2 generations.
Considering that China was on 90nm only 10 years ago and achieved 7nm last year, the 5 years gap is acceptable. Intel still hasn't gotten its 7nm in order yet.

Exactly its not about where your at. Its where you started from and where your heading. West demographic catastrophe is their future so the only thing they can count on is that they are technically still ahead of china in some fields. Wonder what usa aka brazil 2.0 will look like in 50yrs time tho

interesting part of this news is chinese semiconductor equipment makers are eating away american market share in china. this is more important than smic's 5nm. now those companies will have money to invest in r&d and keep making improvement to their products. before the sanctions, chinese foundries didn't even look at them. now they have opportunity. :D

As long as there is a demand there will be a supply no matter how long it take. No more central economic planning for this.

Dude...

That is 5 years behind as TSMC started its 5nm node fabrication in 2020.

Why do you assume that China will be stuck at 5nm as it was unable to get EUV tech from the West?

China by 2030 will have a complete semiconductor supply chain on par with what the whole West was able to achieve.

There is no magic here but needs lots of brainpower and money which China has in abundance.

Isn't it a cheap trick and in fact dishonest to show $50b companies and <$50m companies in a bar chart and claim the little ones are growing really fast ? But that's CCP for you.

Actually if you pay attention China has made much progress in domestic EUV

not so cheap tricks when they are on their way to own the biggest market for semiconductor equipment to themselves. lol

"Chinese equipment companies such as AMEC and Naura are already at the 5nm node, and they will probably be used by SMIC and other semiconductor companies instead of AMAT and LRCX." *ttps://seekingalpha.com/article/4541305-chinese-sanctions-benefitting-chinese-as-smic-on-road-to-5nm-in-2025

Sure. It's like saying both you and Musk are working towards your respective 1st trillion

Naw, it is just amateurish.
Huawei was just a 50mil$ company when Motorola wanted to buy them 20 years ago. The deal fell off because Mr. Ren wanted to keep management in Chinese hands. The rest they say is history. What's astonishing is China is building up a complete semiconductor industrial chain which in my opinion not even teh US can achieve.
