Future technology is within reach. The day will come when all Chinese babies will have no genetic birth defects. The power of technology is astonishing.

Why bother with advanced medical science to fix a person's medical problems AFTER he/she is born? Why not fix the genetic anomalies while they are still an embryo? China is on the right path. Society's health care costs will be dramatically reduced when everyone is healthy genetically.

When the "gene editing" technology becomes mature, the Chinese government simply has to mandate all babies born at a hospital MUST have gene-correction for genetic diseases.

It's a plus for the next generation to be healthier. My interest on this is how well it can be used to raise the intelligence.
 
It's just like Gene modified crops.desired features are incorporated.

Agree, human civilization relies on intelligence, and which is largely genetic. Now average IQ for East Asians centers around 106, say if our next generation Chinese can be raised to 120+ average, that will make huge difference.

Give me one peer reviewed journal article that says that intelligence is genetic.

People with no knowledge of this topic make all kinds of outlandish claims.

Let me first explain to you few things:

1. No body understands the genetic code, traits, and influences.
There is not one gene that codes for any single trait.
At best there are indications that some genes do have a heavy influence for some conditions.

2. Intelligence is a poorly defined word.
What is intelligence, really?

Can the iq test that is used for proxy have any shortcomings? There are plenty. Plus, even in the iq test it is clearly shown that with education the iq goes up.

If iq was really genetic, education should have had no influence.

3. Chinese scientists did nothing extraordinary.

CRISPR is a common gene editing technique perfected in US.

The fact is that western countries DON'T grant their scientists permission to do human trials.

It's just a news based thread and your expert alike try and explanations just failed badly. It also shows that you are too nervous about the words China,'gene' and 'iq' which is not good to you.

So stay calm and take a breath. Concentrate on the technology itself.
 
The US government's National Institute of Health (NIH) says intelligence is 50% genetic.

Obsession of IQ is in fact a western thing, White Supremacist try to belittle ancient civilization of non-white created. After absorbing all good stuff from Ancient Arabian, Persian, Indian, and Chinese etc, they managed to be 'enlightened', get started to conquest and colonize those can not resist to their newly developed technologies. I admit that they did a great job of invention, however, those invention are built on the basis of all human findings, not solely their own. After establishment of their world wide dominance, they get started to cleanse their ancestries' backwardness before sixteen centuries, so they invented a subtle, psychological weapon to repeatedly brainwash color-skinned people's mindset that they are inferior, they should do low level, non-intelligence driven, cheap labor works, high end, high payed work are reserved for whites only. Why? Because white has the high IQ, although East Asian on average scored higher than white, they lack of creativity, leadership etc, lots of craps. This is called 'scientific racism'.

There do have some born extraordinarily, sometimes annoyingly smart people like John von Neumann, but this is a very very rare case, 1 out of million probably. People in general have very few intelligent differences if they are raised in same environment, and educated in same way from childhood. The achievement have a high relevance with efforts, plus proven correct method which can be trained systematically. East Asian's high IQ test in fact reflect this point. Nothing mysterious, rather a cultural thing.

I especially hate people stereotype East Asian as born smarter than others, especially from mouth of a white person which more or less sound like a mock.
 
FOX is portraying Chinese government as a 'acting very very badly' guy who is opposite to human ethic.

Ban on human embryo editing was lifted in the UK and Sweden soon after China announced the results of its first experiment. As far as I'm concerned the two countries seem pretty western to me.
