Write : 2014-06-27 17:16:49 Update : 2014-06-27 17:18:50
Chinese President Xi Jinping will make a two-day state visit to South Korea next week.
Presidential spokesman Min Kyung-wook said in a news briefing on Friday that Xi and his wife will visit South Korea on July 3 and 4 at the invitation of President Park Geun-hye.
The spokesman said that Xi’s visit would mark his first trip to South Korea since he took office early last year and would be a return visit to President Park’s trip to China in June of last year.
He said South Korea would be the only country the Chinese president would visit on this trip.
Park and Xi will hold a summit on Thursday to discuss how to develop bilateral relations and how to deal with North Korea's nuclear weapons program.
The two leaders are also expected to exchange views on various other regional and international issues, including Japan’s pursuit of the right to collective self-defense.
The presidential office expressed hope that Xi’s visit would provide an opportunity for the two countries to further develop their strategic partnership.
