ROME — Chinese policemen are in Italy to start patrols with Italian officers in Rome and Milan in a two-week experiment.

Interior Minister Angelino Alfano said Monday that the aim is to make Chinese tourists feel safe and noted that it's the first time China sent police to Europe for such a project.

Starting Tuesday, two Chinese uniformed policemen will patrol with Italian counterparts in Rome, while two others will patrol with Italian police in Milan. For the second week, the Chinese will switch cities.

The Chinese, who speak Italian, received training from Italian officials in Beijing. Three million Chinese tourists visit Italy annually.

Italy has scarcely drawn on its relatively-new immigrant communities for police officers.

If I'm visiting a foreign country it doesn't really make a difference if the police there are ethnic Chinese or not.

In fact I'd be even more confused.

This is nothing new, I wonder why people start noticing now.

Police in one country often exchange to another country in order to be more "Cooperative" between law enforcement agency around the world, the program called Active-Officer Exchange Program promoted by international police association which annually exchange police officer within its members.

I have a friend who was a San Antonio SWAT Officer got exchanged to Sweden for one year and another one from NSW police were exchanged to the UK.....

Maybe China want to join the IPA? Who knows?
