July 21,

Mumbai: Jinan, a Luyang II-class missile destroyer of Chinese Navy, today docked at Mumbai harbour on a stopover while on an anti-piracy mission on the Gulf of Aden.

Defence sources said the destroyer reached the Mumbai harbour earlier in the day.

The PLA Navy vessel will be leaving for Salalah in Oman on July 24.

The arrival of the Chinese vessel comes at a time when India is keeping a keen eye on the Chinese naval movement in the Indian Ocean Region.

Earlier this month, a Chinese submarine had docked in Karachi, Pakistan, raising the eyebrows of the Indian security establishment.

The photo shows a Type 052 destroyer, not a Type 052C / Luyang-II as was claimed.

Wrong ship posted?

This is Type 052. I thought it was a 052C that docked at Mumbai?

I guess that should be the highlight.
Keeping the IOR free of pirates is a priority not just for India and China but all stake holder economies in the region.

Apparently it is difficult for the publishing media to differentiate between a ship on an Anti Piracy mission and some submarine on a spy mission, to be mentioned both in same breath.

I also think the source used wrong picture. This one should be a 052C class DDG, pennant number 152 under 91991 detachment of PLAN East Sea Fleet.

Schematic of another 052C, pennant number 151:
