China’s commerce minister has appealed to Washington to negotiate disputes with Beijing and avoid a “trade war” that he warned would hurt both sides.
Gao Hucheng, responding to a question about President Donald Trump’s promise to raise taxes on Chinese imports, said at a news conference Tuesday the two governments should work together to promote trade.
Gao said a trade war “should not become an option”. He appealed to Washington to “properly solve” disputes through “dialogue and cooperation”.
Trump promised during his election campaign to raise import duties on Chinese goods to 40 percent but has yet to take formal action. He also promised to declare Beijing improperly manipulated the exchange rate of its yuan to give its exporters a price advantage, which would open the way to other sanctions.

China is falling in line. This shows that who is the real boss.

Hindustan Times knows to how to employ Western media tactics of carefully-selected wordings in order not only to report an incident but also to frame the ensuing debate.

This sort of news making generates gullible citizenship that cannot think independently.

India becoming sneaky before getting capable shows that it is not a country deserve to be taken seriously.

This is in-line with expectations. No matter what Chinese and their friends want to believe, US has China by its throat. There is nothing China can do about it, for foreseeable future.

Simply accepting the news as a real fact doesn't cost much.
China can't afford a trade war with US. Despite holding huge US bonds. It's a fact.
As if US can afford a trade war with China? China selling cheap goods to US is doing American a favor for lowering their inflation and helping the general expenditure by lowering them.

If US wants a trade war, go ahead.

How? Having some 16% share , and declining, share in China's export market?

Also consider that a portion of that export is made by joint ventures US companies established in China.

GM makes more money in China than in the US. So far so good. China's export to US in absolute amount is already declining. But the value is rising.

So, no, they cannot hurt China's interests without hurting theirs. China already invested some 70 billion USD in the US in 5-6 years. Their investment is about 250 billion in 25 years.
