Sindh to teach Chinese language in schools from 2013 | Provinces | DAWN.COM

Seriously guys what is happening....
I do understand that learning chines will help a lot in increasing trade, increasing people to people to people contact. students will be able to get relatively cheap education in china as compare to western universities. which BTW they still get. lot of student go to china now a days for higher education.

But making chines a compulsary language will it do any good ?
we should divert these resources to train more staff, to redraft a better syllabus etc.

I believe learning Chinese should be made by the parents decision or the child to learn Chinese, not sure if it should be compulsory, but in the UK many people are trying to learn Chinese.

well, there should be a choice between french, Italian, German, Spanish and Chinese. This way, everybody can get what they want, and the feeling of something being thrown upon them will be diminished. Chinese is a very very very HUGE language as well. Arabic should also be a choice, it was compulsory before.

Italian and Spanish and French are a waste of time.

Only 2 language I should feel should be compulsory is England and your country native tongue.

I think learning languages is the way forward. English and Chinise must be both looked at as there is just huge numbers out their of both speakers.

French is the worlds third second language if you may, after english, french is given the most priority.

So the teaching is compulsory (meaning the school will offer the course) but students are not required to take the course am I correct?

I think they teach sindhi as well.
I dont see the point of teaching languages at such an early stage. It should be optional.

No it says here that it is compulsory to learn.. that means student are required to learn it.

This is a good measure, after all this country is a burgeoning economic and military giant, it is our neighbor, and also our closest strategic ally. Makes sense.

yes china is our strategic ally and also economic and military giant, but that doest not mean that we start teaching 6 grade students Chinese. They are doing business with whole world and whole world does not speak Chinese.
It should be encouraged to learn not made compulsory. We should devote more resources towards increasing the quality of education.

Compulsory Chinese language courses from class 6 to be introduced in all educational institutions of province from 2013 - Compulsory Chinese language courses from class 6 would be introduced in all educational institutions of the province from the year 2013 as per the Sindh government’s decision. A meeting presided over by Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah was held on Sunday at the Chief Minister’s House to discuss the issue.

Senior Minister for Education Pir Mazharul Haq, President’s Secretary General Salman Farooqui, Education Secretary Siddiq Memon, Special Secretary to the Chief Minister Dr Atta Mohammed Panhwar, the chairman of the Board of Governors Cadet College Petaro and its principal were among those present at the meeting.

They discussed in detail the introduction of other international languages as well. It was observed that bilateral trade relations between China and Pakistan are growing with each passing day which necessitates promotion of Chinese language in the country.

It was decided that students would be given incentives like foreign scholarships to attract them to participate actively in the Chinese system of language and education.

Moreover, regulations for curriculum and other issues in this regard will be resolved on priority basis while the policy would be approved by the Bureau of Curriculum.

This should be made compulsory in all schools in Pakistan. Why do we learn English and not Chinese? China is emerging as a superpower and is our immediate neighbour we should learn Chinese.

what the bloody hell, chinese?? isnt sindhi enough to bear the burden, i think this decision will miserably fail, also there re no teachers who can teach chinese, as compared to native sindhis who are easily available
