China also had to launch this on a Long March rocket. Talk about unaffordable and impractical.

why? it's the same as ICBM using a rocket, one delivering nuke through high arc with relatively fixed path, another without fixed path

for the same price, we can manufacture 3 rockets as you make 1
It missed its target by over 20 miles. We already knew China had the capability to nuke the US. So it didn’t really change the game.

Meanwhile the US has already demonstrated the capability to launch an ICBM ranged conventional HGV at Mach 17 and hit within 6in of its target.

6 inch, what load of crap. :rofl:

FYI - DF 41 CEP accuracy less than 100 meter

It is coming from American military circles.

Thats worse than an ICBM CEP

dumbass jealous indians, first of all, it's a test. second of all, it's supposed to be, after circling the earth in the upper atmosphere and not following fixed path as ICBM

Seems like I have struck nerve here or may be baidu has translated CEP wrong

X-37 is a winged spaceplane for deployment of payload into orbit or do multirole missions. It is not comparable to HGV which uses shorter orbit and only exits atmosphere for a brief time. The purpose is to better avoid detection or make use of orbit away from mid course interception missiles.

Totally totally different lol.

This is from before 2012. And now there are vertical take off ones. Even vertical take off and horizontal landing various types of spaceplane.

Anyway X-37 is NOT a hypersonic glide vehicle. Within the atmosphere, X-37 is a simple glider like the space shuttle. Their purposes are entirely different it is like saying the USA has super advanced light bulbs in X-37 while China tested a laser, FOBS style HGV. They are totally different things like a kite is different to a paper aeroplane. The Chinese test re-enters atmosphere after using suitable orbit for a short time and then glides for tens of thousands of kilometers using shockwaves riding.

I can tell you what will happen in the future. The U.S. will most likely respond by having an enlarge version of the X-37B and equip it with 6 to 12 re-entry warheads, probably even MARVs and park it in orbit over China or near it.
Shouldn't we celebrate that as a human achievement? This achievement will also discipline Americans a bit, good for them.

Very doubtful. What do you think happened when the Russians and Chinese developed hypersonic weaponry as well as conventional IRBMs? U.S. pulled out of the INF treaty which scared them.
Single war effortlessly avoid all ABMS to hit its target. China has 400 nuke warhead.

Last I heard some troll claim US can easily nuke China while China cant do anything to destroy US.....

@Oldman1
@Hamartia Antidote
@F-22Raptor

DZ-17 warhead fit into a DF-31A ICBM and you will have global strike capabilities avoiding all US ABMS deploy...

Hypersonic glide missile cannot be intercepted becos its path is unpredicted and travel at high speed of 6-7 mach.

Wasn't me on that claim. The only claim is that U.S. can destroy China if China decides to launch nukes on the U.S. mainland.
If I got Dim sum for every American report (that includes its overseas based proxies like Nikkei) about China based entirely on "people familiar" with the report about China.

Are you saying its not true?

why china revealed the capabilities of HGV instead of concealing them?
They tried to conceal it using Long March rocket, but the U.S. was watching. And they have to test it to see if it works. You can't really hide such a test. Thats like trying to test a new long range ballistic missile.
This is a forewarning message to demonstrate not to mess with our reunification of Taiwan.
It will fail. You know the U.S. will counter this.

China has clarified that it was just another successful test flight of a reusable experimental spacecraft. :coffee:

Austin says U.S. is closely watching Chinese advanced weapons development

TBILISI, Oct 18 (Reuters) - U.S. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin said on Monday that Washington was closely watching China's development of advanced weapons systems but declined to comment on a report that it had tested a nuclear-capable hypersonic missile.

.
The key words used by U.S. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin were "concerned" and "possible" meaning US Dept of Defense is not certain about what was being tested by China.

Apparently it was reported that the US satellites have failed to detect or to track it.
This is obviously the real cause of concern to US Department of Defense.

Did China created a Ninja class Spacecraft or hypersonic weapon?

Weeks ago USN most expensive and sophiscated Seawolf SSN-11 USS Connecticut was hit or possibly rammed by an unidentified and unknown Ninja style object presumingly a mini Android Submarine inside China territorial water.

Its front was so badly damaged that it could not be submerged and has to be escorted back to Guam Shipyard?

Waltz: China's supersonic missile test is a 'wakeup' moment

This is even funnier to watch and read.

On one hand Florida Rep. Mike Waltz wanted to use and propagate the test as a THREAT to USA to US viewers but on the other hand like most of his US contemporaries wanted to beliitle China by describing this test as mere
supersonic.

A supersonic missile that can go round the world in matter of hours.

This is like Ripley Believe it or not?

That’s a real catch 22.

It is typical statement from them. It gives legitimacy to their own programs.

They could see the activity.

Even OSINT community can keep tabs on developments in space.

No photos of SSN-11 are released. The submarine reached Guam by itself.

The accident was most likely due to tectonic activity on ocean beds of South China Sea.

Never underestimate natural hazards and environments. Submarine mishaps are more widespread than you think.

Bad Press which is unfortunate.

China could land machine(s) on moon and mars, and this experiment is somehow a cause of concern.
