Gang of six involved in 70 cases of burglary

A six-member Chinese gang has been arrested on charges of theft in different emirates of the UAE.
Major General Khamis Mattar, Commander in Chief of Dubai Police, confirmed that Dubai Police were able to solve a number of theft cases and catch the Chinese gang.
Dubai Police received several reports of theft in residential villas, usually when the occupants were away and the villas were vacant for short time.
The gang would steal gold jewelry, money, watches and other expensive items from the house.
Seventy such cases were registered in different emirates of which 17 were committed in Abu Dhabi, 12 in Dubai, 12 in Sharjah and 10 in Ras Al Khaimah. Seven cases were reported from Ajman and six each from Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah.
A team of investigators was formed who studied the modus operandi of these thefts.
Field patrols were intensified in and around the neighbourhood were such thefts had taken place.
Two suspected Chinese nationals, JW and SG, were spotted scanning the area which experienced such incidents of theft.
They were arrested with a backpack containing tools used to break into houses. There were also hand gloves to avoid finger prints while burgling.
After questioning, they confessed to their involvement in many of the thefts in residential villas. They also informed that they were members of a gang.
Two other members of the gang, LT and JM, were nabbed on Al Maktoum Street.
The accused confessed that they provided logistical support to the gang by providing information about target villas and transporting the members to their headquarter in International City in their car.
CID teams continued their investigation and raided an apartment in International City and arrested MXY and GW.
After searching their apartment, police seized goods stolen from several villas. They also found a map of high-end residential sites in the UAE.
They confessed committing thefts and informed the police that the stolen goods were buried in Warsan area, close to Dragon Mart. They had also buried more stolen goods close to Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Road opposite Al Maktoum Airport.
The gang also confessed to thefts in other emirates of the UAE.
Villa owners and residents identified some of their stolen goods that were seized from the gang who have been referred to the public prosecution for further legal proceedings.
