Chinese FM Wang Yi scheduled to visit Dhaka tomorrow

All we can do is guess but I'm a believer in the mantra: hope for the best but prepare for the worst.

Maybe India has no bad intentions for BD - but it won't be wise to depend on their good nature either.

Yet again we are falling into the thinking that India has all the power here.

Not so as BD has enough strength in this relationship to make India regret any hostile acts.

As an example, power imports with Nepal/Bhutan will line up India against the interests of BD,Nepal and Bhutan and if they stop the power and they annoy 3 of their neighbours. The "Dragon" is waiting over the Himalayas to take advantage.

I think this line of thinking comes from a lack of confidence in BD abilities and overconfidence in India's strength. BD is relatively a lot more powerful over India than a lot of people here seem to think.

Without a strong and prosperous BD as the economic engine, then the whole region will stay poor and backward.

China should strive to replace Pakistan with BD as its main ally in the region. At least the Bengali’s don’t bend over from a telephone call from Lu..

BD does not do alliances.

It will remain an independent country that will do business with all the major powers of the world.

Its nothing to do with confidence in India's strength. In fact, to have minimum reliance on India, is a an example of belief in our own strength.

That doesn't mean we dont trade with them - we should make ties as close as possible. But the point is, we can never become reliant on India.

It's natural that India will look after Indian interests. Part of this is the fact that it needs BD out of the Chinese sphere. BD is using this to get favourable terms from India - but make no mistake, if we enter the Indian camp fully, we will be at India's mercy - and they will suck BD dry.

So to be clear, India has no desire for BD to prosper but a byproduct of Indian ambitions can be a prosperous BD.

Again why can the reliance not be too ways?

India cannot damage BD without damaging itself. It's whole eastern region will stay backward and potentially revert back to chaos and violence without a strong BD that co-operates with it.

Anyway BD will never allow India to be able to cause too much damage to it was it will keep power imports to below 20% and there will always be backup generation in the worst case scenario.

Have more confidence in BD and do not overestimate Indian strength which will always remain a compromise and semi-weak country - it is not China afterall!

Some people just love to dwell in personal views, hearsay and conjecture without concrete proof.

The biggest proof of Indian intentions is what it has done in the past for and with Bangladesh. Which does not bode well for Bangladesh as Bangladeshis have already seen.

Those shilling to get us closer to dependence on India are just Indian agents.

We should spread our political and trade dependence as widely as possible. and not just on one specific neighbor country who are by the way incapable of governing their own affairs and are in many ways worse off than us in many development and financial indicators.
