The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) raised the issue with the Chinese Embassy in Dhaka when they came to know about it

The Chinese Embassy in Dhaka has regretted sending gifts to BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia on her "fake birthday", mentioning that it was a "mistake" on their part, says an informed source on Sunday.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) raised the issue with the Chinese Embassy in Dhaka when they came to know about it, the source told UNB.

A diplomatic source said the Chinese Embassy informed the MoFA that it was a "mistake" on their part because they did not do any research on it and did not understand the sensitivity of the matter.

The Chinese Embassy expressed "apology " for it and assured that they will take care of it, said the source.

The Chinese Embassy informed the MoFA that they have a national policy of reaching out to all leaders of various political parties and they have been doing it for years.

Their office had been sending it to the BNP Chairperson "routinely" and they were not aware of this "fake birthday".

They usually send flowers to all leaders, said the diplomatic source.

Khaleda Zia's birthday is a matter of controversy in Bangladesh as there were four birth dates: August 5, 1944; August 19, 1947; September 5, 1946 and August 15, 1946 - appeared in the media on various occasions.

There were criticisms that the Chinese Embassy sent flowers to Khaleda on her "fake" birthday when the nation was observing the National Mourning Day.

On August 15, the National Mourning Day was observed with due respect and solemnity, marking the 45th anniversary of assassination of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

Sheikh Mujibur Rahman – the architect of the country's independence -- was assassinated along with most of his family members at the crack of dawn on August 15, 1975 by a cabal of heinous army personnel under a deep-rooted conspiracy against the country and its independence.

His two daughters -- Sheikh Hasina, now the prime minister, and Sheikh Rehana -- survived the massacre as they were abroad at that time.

She was probably reborn every time she slept with a new guy hence the four birthdays.

However, it seems China have agreed to support Bangladesh's One Birthday policy.

Go through the comments above. if this continues Bangladesh will go away sooner rather than later

I realize Khaleda as Chairman of BNP has a special place in Pakistani hearts, but to us Bangladeshis she is just another corrupt politician. We respect neither Khaleda, nor Hasina as politicians.

However Hasina has helped turn Bangladesh around development-wise. No one can deny that.

Where is Bangladesh today compared to ten years ago? Where is it compared to India and Pakistan on most every indicator of development?

Khaleda however - has mostly led BNP (and Bangladesh, while under her rule) to ruin. BNP as a political force in Bangladesh is more or less, finished. All due to her dynastic line of thinking and stupidity. She being an uneducated person, hardly knew any better.

Of course the thievery has not stopped with Hasina. But has it stopped in Pakistan either?

For a politician - results is the main exemplar. In that Khaleda failed...I'm sorry.

She succeeded in creating a viable exploitative power vacuum. Try your wits out in giving Hasina the elixir of life

What Hasina has created is unusual in a subcontinental context, despite naysayers.

Instead of the hackneyed manipulation by deep state, she has created a path to power by meritocracy and technocracy.

No exploitation will occur, Bangladesh has China and India both 'handled'.

There are numerous people in Bangladesh who are in their thirties and forties who are being groomed to take over power as a group. As a Pakistani you wouldn't know this, nor do I expect you to.

Hasina's legacy will be that she created this fertile ground for this younger leadership to exist and blossom.

The age of uneducated goondas getting to power in Bangladesh exclusively are gone.

Only technocrats and business folks with merit will run Bangladesh.

But all we can do is wait and see after Hasina is gone. @Atlas your thoughts...

I couldn't have said it better myself Bhai. Whole heartedly agree. Just want to add one opinion and that is , perhaps we need a presidential form , so that head of state/ head of govt don't need to rely on political parties too much . Even if we successfully manage rigged election still someone need to rely on party people and you even can't arrange a rigged election in believable form if you replace the hardcore party members.

Like Obaidul Quader ( or like him ) can you nominate a novice against Obaidul Quader in Noakhali 5 and win the election ? Even if you win ,it will not be believable for a die hard fan.

So head of state needs to be dependent on such people to form a govt .

On the other hand , in a presidential form you don't need such thing. People directly can choose executive president and he/she can rule a country with iron fist , without the help of party goons. So we need a deep state backed presidential form instead of parliamentary system, specially after Hasina gone . Otherwise it may backfire ,as it's not easy to control people if you have no dynastic figures available.
